Walked in and straight away the atmosphere was very awkward, and we felt as if we shouldn’t be there. Didn’t even get greeted when we walked in, and we had booked a table. Had to go up to order food and the waitress acted as though it was her first time taking an order. Food was sub-par as well, rather bland. Over all we wished we had stayed in and just ordered takeaway from somewhere else, felt it was a waste of an evening, particularly disappointing as it was our last night of our vacation. Shame as the website shows it to be a lovely pub, but complete opposite when you actually turn up.

I have drove passed this place for the last 40 odd years and it's the first time I have been in. A fab restaurant to meet up with my friend. Staff were friendly and food very tasty. It has a lovely ambience and very comfortable. Will definitely be back.

We went to celebrate my sons birthday. The food was amazing, staff very good and ambience beautiful. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

Food was lovely, however we booked online for 4:30pm on Sunday. We felt under pressure to order, eat and then leave due to it closing at 6pm.

The BEST Sunday dinner in North East. Always tasty, flavours exceptional. The Yorkshire pudding are huge. Even my Nana would of been impressed. Staff are lovely and friendly, always attentative . Open plan kitchen and I love watching the chef cooking and presenting his meals . My favourite place

Food great , service below average- they probably need a few more waiting staff. They brought our drinks but we had to chase someone down eventually to make our food order. Probably would have spent more if someone had bothered to ask if we wanted more drinks, dessert etc. They also forgot to bring one dish (was not charged though).

Masala fries are incredible. Friendly atmosphere and great service. Dog friendly.

Fabulous food, great wine, friendly staff, great atmosphere

Visited on 28/1/2023 2 adults 3 kids, from the start the service was amazing, we asked to move tables to be more in the atmosphere and it was no problem at all. The drinks came out in good time and there wasn’t much of a wait for our food order to be taken. When the food came it was well presented and tasted awesome. I will definitely be visiting again and I highly recommend. Good work keep it up 5

Great food. Very pleasantly surprised at the quality obviously a great chef! Ordered cod but got Hake but was so delicious I decided not to mention ! Attentive service and greeting . We would recommend to others and visit when in the boro again.

We had a great experience at Roots Rum Shack, Hull. The food was tasty, well prepared and plentiful, the service was excellent, as was the atmosphere and the music We have been to Jamaica visiting family, and living locally many times over the years, and have visited many similar Jerk Kitchen style places that abound there, and the Roots Rum Shack in Hull compares very favourably with any of those we have visited in every respect, except of course the weather. We will definitely go to Roots Rum Shack again.
