El Bareto – Chapel AllertonI just wanted to thank kate horsfield the owner and her staff for a lovely do on new years eve. It was a buffet and dj with dancing and lots of fun. The food was excellent as usual and the staff so friendly. my husband though kate's party dress looked wonderful!! I highly recommend the potting Shed day and night, we are regulars from holmfirth and it makes a nice day out for us now we're both retired. good location, free parking, wonderful hand crafted oak decor. well worth the trip
Rileys at the Potting Shed – BarnsleyWe used to come to Est Est Est about 7 years ago when we lived down the road and it was always good. Having now moved back to the area we went back yesterday. I was expecting something that was ok but expensive. We didn't choose the most expensive options: pizza and salad for me, asparagus salad for partner, wines and juices, olives, make your own pizzas for the kids, ice creams for them, coffees and liqueurs for us but the bill was about £10/£15 less than I'd have expected. The pizza was lovely, mainly because the dough was perfectly cooked, and the salad fresh, crisp and well dressed. Definitely worth returning.
Gusto – HeadingleyWent to the CR in the Light after the theatre a couple of nights ago. We really enjoyed it. It was late on a Sunday night and quiet. Service was fine. Really good wine available by the glass, an excellent steak frites, excellent tarte tatin, good coffee and good quality ice creams for the kids. Ok, its a chain of ersatz French cafés but, at least on this occasion it felt and tasted pretty authentic. Except for the gren beans I ordered, which were good but I'd expected them to have been finished in a little garlic and buter in the true gallic manner. Will certainly go back.
Cafe Rouge – Leeds City Centrethe best Indian restaurant experience that i have had in years 5 star
Akbars – YorkVery smelly and dirty and messy. definitely would not go there again. I recommend an orange coloured cafe called fiesta cafe on holderness road opposite lloyds tsb. clean and quick service. you dont even have to pay until you've finished your dinner. best cafe in hull. for pubs well there is john pauls restaurant in cowden which is cheap and very swiss.it is beautiful.
Four in Hand – HullBeen here for the buffet a number of times. First 2 times were in groups and I wasn't that impressed - too many dishes seemed decidedly un-Asian and the prawn dishes tasted off. However, have since learned to pick and choose what I like and as a result have had some great value, great quality meals. The vegetarian dishes in particular are excellent and there tends to be a couple of non-mainstream meat dishes too. They no longer do the prawns! Thoroughly recommend and they are good with kids too.
Aagrah Restaurant – ShipleyWe went to the black bull for the 4th Xmas day in a row knowing that the company had changed hands recently. What a disgrace !!! The bottom line is that there were no staff which impacted on service , the standard of food and lack of interest. We had a table booked for 2pm and got there for 1pm for pre dinner drinks . By 3pm we were still waiting for our starters which resulted in literally enough soup to cover the base of the bowl - the same as a childs portion. There were 6 in our party and 4 had finished they're soups by 10 minutes before the other 2 members received they're 2 chicken skewers. We had to ask what was happening 3 times. The meal came and was ok at 4pm 2 and a half hours later, by this time we were completely frustrated and ruined our day - terrible terrible terrible and so disappointing at £200 for a party of 6
Black Bull – WakefieldVery good chinese restaurant serving generous portions of good authentic chinese food and dim sum. Whenever I have visitors we never fail to frequent Maxis. Pity the Leeds branch is no where near as good!
Maxis – YorkCould be bucking the trend here...Went to Akbars in Bradford twice, the first time we left straight away after being told it would be 40 minutes for a table and the bar was full of people who were a bit too worse for wear. Second time we went on a quiet midweek and got straight in. Food was average and the impression was that it came a lowly second to decor, lighting and gimicks. Last year I went to the one on Greek Street. Again, had to wait in a crowded bar (complete with floor sticky with spilled beer) but when we got a table it was far quieter and the food was better than the time before. Went to Eastgate just before Christmas. Had calamari starter (daft choice I know) and got 3 unspiced rings of frozen calmari with a very small soaking wet salad (water ran off the plate). The keema main was better but fairly bland. The gimmicky naan bread was actually nice. If you want to pay over the odds for very average food served amidst trendy/funky/kitsch decor then this is the place to go. The emperor's new clothes of restaurants?
Akbars – Leeds City CentreUnbelievable food at very reasonable prices!! been going here for years from Barnoldswick, The chicken tikka kebab are out of this world, and the seekh kebab starters melt in ya mouth!!! highly recommend Shimlas to anyone after top notch food.
Shimla Kebab House – Bradfordthe staff are friendly, but one of the owners is not very nice, young lad. pleasant evening not recommended for important or special events.
Spicey Cottage – Bradfordexcellent food, everthing to a high standard. ideal place for a special occasion.fantastic!
Medici Restaurant – Hullget yourselves to sleepers, great choice of meals, fantastic value, feel good atmosphere. i love it and recommend it everytime.
Sleepers Bar – HullMaybe I am biased living in Darton but I have eaten Asian food in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, but this place for me beats them all. Whatever you want, Imran will do. Brilliant! Send me the £5 Zaff and by the way Azzar says your not 27 but 43. I don't care, keep the food the same we'll still keep coming. Julian
Royal Spice, The – BarnsleyHad lunch at Sandbar. Friendly service and extremely pleasant Thai style chicken with a good salad. Very reasonably priced and a welcoming atmosphere. Only problem I could see was when a family came in to eat they were told they only allow children on the two tables in the window and in no other part! Despite the good food that rules me (and the family) out as potential regulars.
Sandbar – HorsforthTook the family here for lunch today, and it was ok. The manager was on hand and was extremely friendly and helpful. The decor was good and the place clean. The food itself was more mixed. We had tortillas, gambas and piri piri as starters to share for £12 and all were ok, with the gambas being the pick of the lot. For mains we had chicken enchilladas that seemed a bit dry/stale, ximxin which was ok but nowhere near as flavoursome as it's billing and a chilli con carne which was very good. It served a purpose for us today and wasn't bad but its not somewhere we'll be rushing back to.
Las Iguanas – Leeds City CentreAfter driving past this bistro many times we decided to try it as the exterior is very impressive. We have never been so disappointed! The limited menu seemed to boast high quality dishes at matching prices. This was not the case. Most of the food was frozen, chunky chips etc. We ordered a mixed starter with vegetable tempura, It consisted of frozen wedges, 3 samosas, 2 spring rolls and a bit of salad with dips for £9.50!!! NO TEMPURA, apparently they had run out, of what, I don't know? Vegetables and a bit of batter?? Oh Sorry it can't have been fresh, they must have been all out of frozen tempura at the cash and carry! My son's grilled chicken was so dry and overcooked that he was still chewing it when we got home. The rice we were brought was, frankly, disgusting (half raw and half mush). All in all this eating experience would probably have been inevitable in a food pub chain but certainly not representative of the image and pricing of this particular restaurant.
