Matthew’s Kitchen – North LondonThe restaurant was fine, but too cold,
Matthew’s Kitchen – North LondonExcellent fresh fish and service was very attentive without being overbearing. Mixed grill was superb
Matthew’s Kitchen – North LondonHave to say this place was rather disappointing and gone down hill for me. Been going to this since 2003 and know Paul well and varna but the food was not good last night, the fish n chips well the batter was absolutely rock hard and the chips were very crunchy, the chicken burger was not nice either, very oily batter. The food standard is not good and got worse over the years. The noise as well was shocking at one stage I had to tell a group to tone it down as it was ridiculous, thought I was back in the trenches! Live the beer regardless and will go again soon but will have to think about the food if I’m going to have
The Dove Freehouse and Kitchen – HackneyDinner with friends last night. Food delicious Service good and friendly.

The Dove Freehouse and Kitchen – HackneyThe ambience is really nice in the restaurant. It’s relaxed and atmospheric. The menu is interesting. Although some of the elements of the menu I would say are better than others. A bit hit and miss. The fish bouillabaisse is excellent and I highly recommend. The fish taco for starter is also excellent. Yesterday, unfortunately my starter and main were not great. I had the seabass and salmon ceviche which looked beautiful on the plate, but was very bland. It has simply been seasoned with lemon juice it seemed and nothing else. As raw fish is very bland on its own, it needs to be flavoured with a lot more such as garlic, ginger, lemon, grass, , coriander, chilli etc . And the grilled mixed fish for main ( which was a special but done fairly regularly I believe ) again looked good on the plate, but was very bland. The fish had simply been grilled, with no seasoning or flavour. So I have to say a bit of a disappointment. As I said it’s hit or miss. One other observation would be that for a local restaurant it’s very pricey. For the four of us, we had two bottles of wine ( white Sancerre) a starter and a main each , no desserts and finished with one Baileys , one brandy and two Sambucas. The bill came to approx £345 for the four of us. Which, as I said, is very expensive for a local restaurant; so an observation would be that they really need to consider their pricing from a customer retention perspective. We do like to support local restaurants as much as possible, but I would say consistency in the food alongside a well priced menu is key. We would go back more often if it wasn’t for these two factors. One thing I would add , on a more positive note , was the staff were very friendly and efficient.
Matthew’s Kitchen – North LondonDelicious food, served promptly. The service was excellent and friendly. I will certainly go again.

Matthew’s Kitchen – North LondonI've been a Matthew's Kitchen Whetstone customer for quite a few years now, but only this evening did I first try the mussels - the tomato & oregano style. Brilliant! A big portion served in the classic metal pot. Mussels are surprisingly filling, this was plenty. I did order extra bread which was a good idea to mop up the sauce. The extra side of green beans was amazing too, perfectly cooked and had such a fresh flavour and al dente texture. The special scallops, served as so often with chorizo, and this time herb garlic butter , were as good as ever, too. Fish & shellfish soup goes without saying, I always have this. Great meal to cheer me up on a still gloomy March evening, thanks again Angela & Team Matthew.
Matthew’s Kitchen – North LondonI am a fish lover and this is my favourite restaurant. Plenty of options, all beautifully cooked and presented. This time I had the tuna which was beautifully rare and my partner enjoyed the haddock which is his favourite. The cocktails are great too and they have many specials. Thoroughly recommend and we'll be back soon!
