Little Yang Sing – Manchester City CentreThis weekend I visited this magnificent restaurant for the fifth time. If going for the first time, I recommend the Armenian Banquet, culminating in sumptuous sticky Armenian delight with pistachios. However - this is a meal for the formidable, and be sure to embark upon it with an eager appetite as you may be surprised as you finish off the first platter of superb mezze - baba ganoush, Armenian sausage, full bi-hummus, freshly made lavash bread to name but a few of the titillating savoury delights you might have on your plate - an equally huge selection of mouthwateringly grilled kebabs is placed before you, with the most perfectly cooked rice, dusted with the sweetness of cinnamon, served with a rich tomato sauce marvellously cut through with coriander seed. It is rapturous eating! They make an Armenian goulash with lamb on the bone, served with couscous, which melts beautifully in the mouth and is somehow sweet and deeply savoury at the time. I love the way this restaurant isn't trying to keep up with the trendy establishments that come and go so quickly, it just is itself, and does that so very well. Another couple of atmosphere plus-points: look left when headed to the toilets and you'll get to peek in the kitchen, and see piles of freshly made lavash bread and the wonders of an Armenian kitchen at work. Plus the music on Saturday night was delightful - I didn't want to leave!
Armenian Taverna and Restaurant – Manchester City CentreAs I grew up in North America I went in expecting the same old mediocre attempt at "American" cuisine but I can honestly say this tasted absolutely delicious! Bit pricey for a burger (9 quid) but you get what you pay for I suppose. Would definitely go back
Old Orleans – The PrintworksEl Rincon is an excellent place to eat, it has a very Spanish feel and great atmosphere!! I love it!!
El Rincon de Rafa – Manchester City CentreExcellent food, interesting and vibrant surroundings and it won't cost you an arm and a leg. Well worth a visit.
Velvet – Manchester City CentreI hope that my experience at Taurus is not going to become the norm. I dined with a number of friends at Al Fresco on a Sunday night and the service was slow and the food portions terrible. Two of my friends ordered a dim sum platter at £12.50, when it eventually arrived after 48 minutes, it consisted of around 8 dim sum items, half a plate of prawn crackers, Olives (Chinese olives no doubt) and a lot of salad. My Cajun chicken was anything but, and was a humble 5 slices of chicken breast in a decent sized ciabatta (all for £5). Fortunately the Taurus Burger with Bacon at £8 was of a better standing. When we commented to the waiter about the portion sizes, he agreed that they were not altogether reasonable and reduced the meal by half price. I've eaten a couple of times here before on lunchtime on various days. I've usually found it much better but I think this is a change in policy by the management. I don't think it's somewhere I could recommend because of the lack of consistency. A great shame.
Taurus Cafe Bar and Restaurant – Manchester City CentreBooking is advised otherwise one can have a long wait. Service was great and so was the food, Can get a bit crowded though but that feeling fades away very fast. Convenient location and a must for Thai food fans out there!
Siam Orchid – Manchester City Centrecheap as chips billy bunter would be full up!
This and That – Manchester City Centre28 0f us booked and had a brilliant night at EFES, the service was great, entertainment fantastic. All staff made my sisters hen night a night that we wont forget. Would highly recommend to others.
Efes Restaurant & Taverna – Manchester City CentreThe atmosphere at Sinclairs is something you'll find nowhere else in Manchester. Really cheap prices and quick service. Perfect place to come on a sunny day or on a night out. My favourite place to have a drink and generally a fantastic time.
Sinclairs Oyster Bar – Manchester City Centreevery time i have visited with customers and family , the service is second to none , and the food outstanding espicially the mixed grill , v good for catering for larger groups also highly recommended
Cafe Istanbul – Manchester City CentreVery good food, but truly awful service. Over an hour between courses, and repeatedly ignored requests for extra drinks, the bill, etc., combined with arrogant disdain, effectively ruined our evening.
Stock Restaurant – Manchester City CentreVery difficult to find - I had to seek the assistance of the long arm of the law. But well worth it. Excellent "rice and three curries" for £3.50. Just what you need after a morning round town.
This and That – Manchester City CentreThis Restaurant has to be one of the greatest in Manchester! the food, service and atmosphere is out of this world. GO TOPKAPI!
Topkapi Palace – Manchester City CentreOK I haven't given any outstanding ratings (a reflection on my fussiness rather than the place), but I love it here. I've been coming here for years and the lovely food, good service and friendly atmosphere always ensure I have a great time- as well as the happy hour wine of course. I've introduced lots of people to its joys and everyone has been suitably impressed. I can't sing Velvet's praises enough.
Velvet – Manchester City CentreOn the basis of my first visit, the Yang Sing deserves its reputation as one of Britain's premier Chinese restaurants. It advertises that it will design a banquet for you around your likes and dislikes at a fixed price. We told the waitress what these were and that we dont want to spend more than £25 per head. We left it to her to pick the food and keep it as a surprise. It was great. Nothing could have been described as "the usual you get in a chinese", but, equally, there was nothing odd. Service was first class. Our visit was for a saturday nightnd, even for 7.30, the reservation had been essential. As mentioned above, food for four cost £100. Drinks and tip added another £50. Not a cheap night out but worth every penny.
Yang Sing – Manchester City CentreExcellent value for money and always friendly service. It has become a mainstay of Manchester Eateries and can always be depended on. The extended non-smoking policy is a welcome addition.
Croma – Manchester City CentreThe ambience of this place has to be tested to believe. Wonderful staff, quality beers and excellent choice of quality food. On a sunny day,"Shambles Square" as we still call it, is a match for Paris, Amsterdam or Madrid.
