Cafe Istanbul – Manchester City CentreVery good food, but truly awful service. Over an hour between courses, and repeatedly ignored requests for extra drinks, the bill, etc., combined with arrogant disdain, effectively ruined our evening.
Stock Restaurant – Manchester City CentreVery difficult to find - I had to seek the assistance of the long arm of the law. But well worth it. Excellent "rice and three curries" for £3.50. Just what you need after a morning round town.
This and That – Manchester City CentreThis Restaurant has to be one of the greatest in Manchester! the food, service and atmosphere is out of this world. GO TOPKAPI!
Topkapi Palace – Manchester City CentreOK I haven't given any outstanding ratings (a reflection on my fussiness rather than the place), but I love it here. I've been coming here for years and the lovely food, good service and friendly atmosphere always ensure I have a great time- as well as the happy hour wine of course. I've introduced lots of people to its joys and everyone has been suitably impressed. I can't sing Velvet's praises enough.
Velvet – Manchester City CentreOn the basis of my first visit, the Yang Sing deserves its reputation as one of Britain's premier Chinese restaurants. It advertises that it will design a banquet for you around your likes and dislikes at a fixed price. We told the waitress what these were and that we dont want to spend more than £25 per head. We left it to her to pick the food and keep it as a surprise. It was great. Nothing could have been described as "the usual you get in a chinese", but, equally, there was nothing odd. Service was first class. Our visit was for a saturday nightnd, even for 7.30, the reservation had been essential. As mentioned above, food for four cost £100. Drinks and tip added another £50. Not a cheap night out but worth every penny.
Yang Sing – Manchester City CentreExcellent value for money and always friendly service. It has become a mainstay of Manchester Eateries and can always be depended on. The extended non-smoking policy is a welcome addition.
Croma – Manchester City CentreThe ambience of this place has to be tested to believe. Wonderful staff, quality beers and excellent choice of quality food. On a sunny day,"Shambles Square" as we still call it, is a match for Paris, Amsterdam or Madrid.
Sinclairs Oyster Bar – Manchester City CentreThe Ox has a current menu firmly in the "modern british" style. My partner had a starter of crab cakes (spicy), followed by a good rib-eye steak. I had black pudding, on a potato & apple rosti, followed by pork chop with roast vegetable couscous. All excellent. Being greedy, we had side orders of fine beans and a really good rocket & parmesan sald. It meant we were too full for desserts, but managed coffee. Service was excellent throughout. It was great to have such quality food in this relaxed environment. Bill, including drinks was just short of £60, which we felt was good value.
The Oxnoble – Manchester City CentreBeen several times, but never anyone else in the restaurant at lunch time. One bad experience with mussels but generally food excellent, though expensive for the place. Bar food better value, and just as nice, with more punters to give a better atmosphere.
Bluu – Northern QuarterBeen meaning to try Grinch out for a long while, finally did so last night & wasnt disapointed. Had the Pollo Rosso pizza, which had to be the tastiest i've ever experienced. Much better value than other pizza providers in the city. Also really impressed with the range of cocktails!!!
Mud Crab at Grinch – Manchester City CentreIf you like to taste your food, then this is the place to go. Turkish food at its best.
Cafe Istanbul – Manchester City CentreAte here recently on a friday night, early doors without a booking, but they were fully booked for later on. Cauliflower soup to start, very nice indeed, not overseasoned like I've had elsewhere. Main of line caught sea bass fillet, pan fried. Very nicely cooked , caramalised skin, not overdone. Full of flavour (not always the case with bass.) Service was attentive and informative, although we did have one of the managers as our waiter, so would expect that level of knowledge! Plenty of staff polishing glasses and plates so it all bodes well for the future. I'll definitely be going back.
Bluu – Northern Quartervery good restaurant. dined here a few times. banquet offers great choice and good to share. still haven't got round to ordering a la carte as banquet is too good!! food id very tasty and filling. good presentation of food and nice chopsticks and plates! we always leave with a smile on our faces.
Koreana – Manchester City Centrenot bad but far from good.food not as good and service not as efficient as their partner restaurant.still very convenient for pre-concert
Gio Ristorante – Manchester City CentreVisted this restaurant following recently having returned from travelling Thailand. The green curry with pork was as good as that in Chiang Mai whilst the seafood kebabs and prawns in garlic were excellent. This was one of the best meals I have had and will definitely be returning.
Koh Samui Thai Restaurant – Manchester City CentreStaff are ace, food is yummy, wine list is impressive and the cocktails are tooo diiee for! GO!
Bluu – Northern QuarterMy friends and I fancied a change from the normal greasy spoon fry up on a sunday morning. So we opted for a dim sum brunch. Excellent food in a unique venue for this side of China. Can be a little pricey for the uninitiated though. Basically the waiting staff push trolleys around the restaurant with the dim sum delicacies on board offering you the chance to grab some. So we did and got a bit of a shock when our normal greasy spoon £4 a head was blown out the water with £15 a head. Well worth it for the experience though.
Glamorous – Northern QuarterMeat or Vegetarian Lunch Tiffin, £12.95. Available 12pm-4pm, Monday to Friday.
