Mei Dim – Manchester City CentreMy wife and I visited The Italian Job a few weeks ago and it was good that time but feel moved to write about our experience last night as the service was the worst I have ever experienced. They must have had a large function upstairs as waiters were constantly trooping up there with plates of food and that left all of us unfortunate enough to be downstairs with a frankly ridiculously low number of staff available, indeed sometimes there were no memebers of staff in site. We had to wait about 30 minutes for our starter but considered ourselves to be lucky compared to the tables behind us who sat there for about an hour between starter and main courses. People ended up getting up from tables to go to the downstairs bar to complain. At least they did not charge us for coffee and pudding but it was small compensation really for the appalling service. We'll give them one more try though as the food is good and this just might have been a blip, but they need to either have more staff on or start to refuse bookings if they have a big function on and they cannot cope.
The Italian Job Restaurant – UrmstonWe went for lunch last week and we're really impressed with the food. The staff were very pleasant. We will be returning soon.
The Duke of York – RoytonWould never eat there again. Took my mum on mothers day for a booked meal. Landlady very gobby.
Golden Lion – SwintonWent with the staff after the NRB and the service was fantastic, all the staff had smiles on their faces and nothing was too much trouble. The food was full of flavour and tasted fresh. We all said we would definitely go back! Tomas really looked after us!
Fazenda Rodizio Bar and Grill – SpinningfieldsThe full suckling pig was awesome! So tender it could be cut up using a side plate! A definite must try!
Iberica – SpinningfieldsStunning looking restaurant in Spinningfields. Love Spanish food and these guys are now the best operators for this cuisine in town. Hugely successful London venues this their first outside the capital. Tapas choices excellent as was the wine we chose and list as a whole. Will be visiting regularly.
Iberica – SpinningfieldsI booked a table here for myself and my elderly parents as a treat for Mother's Day. We arrived at 12pm, as did another party of four. Apart from the three of us and the other four people the restaurant was completely empty. The waitress went to sit us next to the other party at a table for two, so I asked if we could sit in one of the booths and was told they were all reserved. I explained that it would be a squeeze for the three of us to manage on a table for two and as it was directly next to the other party it may look like we were all one party. The Manager then said we could sit in the booth in the window. As the restaurant had only just opened it was still quite chilly, but the draft coming from the window behind us was unbearable, so I asked if we could move along to the next booth. We were told that this was not possible as this table was set for five and that they would be arriving in 25 mins. I explained that if we moved, our booth could be re-set for five as the booths are equal size. By this point we had been given the wrong menu... twice. The Manager was adamant at this point that we could not move, so I asked my parents if they would like to go somewhere else. We were told by the Manager that as it was Mother's Day we would struggle to get in anywhere else. Because, by this point we had decided to leave for numerous reasons the Manager said we could move to the next booth along, presumably as he didn't want to lose custom. I said we would take a chance finding somewhere else to eat and as we got up to leave the Manager started to get abusive and physically started pushing me and shouting at us to get out. I wouldn’t mind but we were giving the place one last chance as the food was on offer. We had eaten here twice previously. The first time we were given the wrong order and had to wait nearly an hour for our order to be cooked and served and the second time, my Dad’s meal was cold and had to be sent back and warmed up. Needless to say I wouldn’t step foot in this place again if you paid me. All I can say is... if you don't mind mediocre food (when it’s correct and hot), cold surroundings and rude abusive management this is the place for you. Alternatively, spend your hard earned cash elsewhere, we did and it was lovely.
Hale Wine Bar – HaleI'm so looking forward to Five guys opening in Ashton Under Lyne where I live you serve amazing burgers.
Five Guys – Ashton Under LyneWhat can I say about this place apart from unbeatable. We celebrated my daughters 21st at the restaurant. Service, food, wine 1010. Made us feel very special and my daughter was the focus of attention. So good to have somewhere local with amazing food etc at affordable prices. Well done to the whole team.
La Scala – RochdaleThis chippy is now under new management and is right now one of the best shops around, serving fresh fish everyday and the chips and sausages are to die for!!! We love you!!! Thanks Robert..
Whittakers Fish and Grill – EcclesService excellent for first night and late table. We shared a 950c chateaubriand which was stunning although at £130 not cheap. Free starters of ginger pork bellies was good but not my thing. Excellent wine list and do half bottles of good wines which is a great idea - we had 1.5 bottles which worked better than 2! My partner had a dessert that was apparently very good as well. All in very impressive, not cheap (£260 all in) but best steak restaurant in Manchester by country mile.
Hawksmoor – Manchester City CentreThe restaurant felt a bit busy with a few too many tables possibly. On more than one occasion I was caught by a passing waiter / patron, it made me want to hit someone!! Staff were dressed down and wouldn't have looked out of place at Reds or Almost Famous, maybe that's the London influence but it did have the feel of a burger joint at times and when they are positioning themselves as a high end steak restaurant it felt more Northern Quarter to me. Challenger for the Gaucho but very different and not necessarily better.
Hawksmoor – Manchester City CentreWow I've eaten the best chips in the world SCRUMPTIUOS! NOM NOM NOM YUMMY
Sykes – SwintonThe Hawksmoor was absolutely a.m.a.z.i.n.g! Best food we have all had for a long time didn't want it to end!! The service was also excellent. Really nice atmosphere and amazing cocktails, had a gin Bloody Mary which I'd never had before which was lush.
Hawksmoor – Manchester City CentreI didn't do 'fish n chips' I do now. And don't get started on the battered sausage or the giant jumbo sausages the fish is fresh daily, fresh chips just perfect. The new owners Roberto
