A couple of friends and I went to the White Rooms for lunch on a Saturday in August 2011 and were really disappointed. The food was actually quite good but let down by terrible service. There were three waitresses on staff, none of whom seemed to have much experience in waiting tables but were pretty content to chat to each other and some regulars and ignore us. We were only offered one drink, had to repeatedly get their attention (which was not easy!) to request condiments/coffee/the bill and when we ordered three cappuccino's we served cold, regular coffees with a chocolate dusting - not quite like any cappuccino I've ever seen and all the worse for being cold!! It wasn't obvious whether they always serve cold coffee or whether it was cold due to the 15 minutes that elapsed between the order and the delivery. To make it even worse, the unsteady hand of the waitress poured it out all over the saucers - which we were left to clean up. In the end, we didn't even complain as the waitresses clearly didn't understand the basics of good service so it seemed pointless. It took us almost two hours to get through lunch due to the very slow service, which I could sympathise with if they were having a busy lunch but they weren't - the restaurant was half full and the waitresses were standing around chatting for the most part. It will be a while before I try the White Rooms again, although the food (we had salads and chips) was actually good, it was incidental to a pretty rubbish experience.
