Tavern Fayre – BoltonBlacksticks is a long standing favourite of both of us.The food is consistently well presented and excellently cooked. We have frequented this restaurant for several years now and have NEVER left disappointed. Long may it continue to be our favourite local nosherie
Blacksticks Restaurant – EcclesThis is a unique and elegant treat, which you might easily overlook if passing on the street. By walking through the doors of Stockport Plaza you step back in time to 1932. The newly refurbished Plaza Super Cinema and Variety Theatre has character by the bucket. By night, the building is host to a mixture of variety, music, classic films and more up to date movies. By day you can head upstairs to find a cafe lounge, complete with bow-tied and waistcoated waiting staff in the setting of Plaza's original cafe, much as it was 78 years ago overlooking Mersey Square. The place is typically open 10 - 4 and offers lunches, cakes and the like. Unusually, the dishes draw heavily on local producers. We tried the BLT (local bacon and very tasty) and the Cheshire Rarebit which included Stockport-brewed beer and local cheese. A range of teas are available including Plaza blend. Ours were delivered in pristine white tea pots with individual strainers. Bliss. It looks like some evening meals may also be available.
Plaza Cafe Lounge – Stockportfrancos is brill and value for money i have been plenty of times and loved it
Francos – Wiganthis is by far the best Indian in Wigan, would well recommend
Raj The – WiganA very disappointing visit !! Having arrived early, to enjoy a drink in the bar, we were ushered to our table, half way through our drink. We then ordered, and finished 4 courses within 45 minutes!!!!!!. The first course was brought out of sequence, and therefore, subsequent courses were kept warm. As a consequence, our main courses were over cooked. At the end of our very quick meal, when asked if everything had been ok, I pointed out that I had only eaten half of my main course because it was over cooked. This just got a cursory " oh, I am sorry " This was our first visit, and although it looked like this was not a typical example of this restaurant, it may well be our last. NB It was our wedding anniversary.
San Marino – BoltonWouldn't eat here again. Ordered a vegetarian lasagna and was served a meat lasagna! Not good for a veggie of over 20 years..
Villaggio – Manchester City CentreJust wanted to say to all - what a fantastic day me and my husband had at Zouk's Indian cookery classes. It was absolutely brilliant we had a really fabulous days.. The cookery demonstration and learning was fun, as well as being very informative, there was plenty of time to ask questions and too see someone who is so passionate about a food in action was quite mind blowing. The lunch we all shared together was the best Indian food we've ever eaten. I would highly recommend this amazing cooking class to anyone who enjoys a relaxed fun environment and good food.
Zouk Tea Bar – Manchester City CentreI went with my partner to this place earlier this week. The restaurant was very cold. We tried to speak to the manager. He was extremely rude and just shrugged hiss shoulders up and said '' There is nothing wrong!''. Very poor customer service and rude staff. Certainly my last visit!

Morning Star Pub Restaurant – OldhamTried to book a table at the Shoulder of Mutton, Holcombe, only to be told that they were closed as the kitchen was being re-fitted (re-opens 5th Feb). The young lady offered to book me in at their sister pub, the Victoria Hotel. We booked in with a little trepidation as we had heard the Shoulder was good but knew nothing of the Victoria. Well, had a fabulous evening! They have got the balance between pub and restaurant just right - retained a couple of small rooms around the bar for drinkers and small, separate dining room for diners. A good selection of real ales, reasonably priced wines by glass and bottle, good, friendly service from young bar and waiting staff. Menu had good mix of traditional English fayre, (Hot pot, fish & chips, etc) and more modern English cuisine - hare with ratatouille, pheasant. All excellent value for the money. Speaking to Andrew after the meal I can confirm it is in the same ownership as the Shoulder. Good luck to both establishment.
The Victoria – BuryDisappointing! We came to Try Thai first about 2.5 years ago and loved it. Since end of 2009 they extended the restaurant significantly with a whole new business approach. Even though it looks quite fancy now in the new bit it has completely lost it's charm and character and the quality of food has deteriorated significantly too. The simple and friendly restaurant is now a Chaophraya style restaurant with loud pop music and just average quality food and service. We are on the quest of finding a new favorite Thai restaurant now.
Try Thai – Manchester City CentreI come with my husband and son all the time and they are great with kids and they provide such an atmosphere very relaxed. The food it brilliant, wonderful chefs, and the waitering service is marvellous and they interact with many, if not all the customers!
