A truly fantastic place to eat, excellent service and not as pretentious as The Lime Tree
Jem and I Bar and Grill – DidsburyI'd recommend The Bandstand for families during the daytime and for a low cost intimate meal in the evening. I've never had cause to complain.
Bandstand, The – RusholmeJust one word: Fantastic
Jitrada Thai Restaurant – SaleCertainly exceptional beef in very nice surrounds, with a young and unpretentious staff who deliver fast and attentive service.
Gaucho – Manchester City CentreCafé Jem&I, School Lane, Didsbury. The eponymous Jem, the owner/chef at Jem&I (this name has an explanation involving twins but if you want to know more I suggest you ask them yourself!) started his career at West Didsbury? classiest restaurant The Lime Tree before being snapped up to run the kitchen at The Lincoln in Manchester. Jem? brought exactly the same quality and excellence that he used there with him to Jem&I. I feel The Lime Tree suffered as a result of his absence though it has since recovered its form. And reports from friends about the Lincoln seem to confirm a similar dip. The food is fantastic, it? not cheap but nothing is overpriced. The ingredients are all bought fresh from the market and the fish dish changes daily depending on what they found that morning. The wines I?e sampled have all been excellent and like the food whilst pricey it? a fair price. But it? the food that should entice you there; Jem is a master of good quality, simple food. Nothing is over flavoured or messed around with, his sauces are sublime, the portions are huge and the service, poached from The Lincoln, is a feat of friendly, Scottish, comedic excellence. The Premises on School Lane in Didsbury used to be the Time for Tea café and they?e remodelled it brilliantly given the limited space and the ability to look past the stainless steel counters into the tiny, efficient, kitchen certainly enhances the atmosphere. It does have a habit of looking closed from the outside however, so be bold and open the door! (Unless it? Monday, when they close) It? still a café and they open in the mornings with a full breakfast menu and stay open all day.
Jem and I Bar and Grill – DidsburyThe food was very average infact somewhat poor compared to other Thai eateries. However the evening entertainment is fantastic and the atmosphere is excellent. Shame they try to pack too many people into the restaurant.
Crazy Wendys – DidsburyExcellent restaurant food is fantastic. However Sunday buffet resembles a free-for-all.
Jitrada Thai Restaurant – SaleGreat value at lunch-time
Pacific – Manchester City CentreI HAD A GREAT TIME. IT WAS NOT ORDINARY FOOD AND THE ENTERTAINMENT WAS VERY UNIQUE. I LIKE TO VISIT THE RESTAURANT AGAIN.
Efes Restaurant & Taverna – Manchester City CentreBusiness lunch superb - excellent value for money.
Tai Pan Restaurant – RusholmeLa Tasca has the best Spanish food around - the calamares, gambas pil pil and paella mariscos are out of this world. Most seem to come here to relive their Spanish holidays and forget rainy Manchester for a few hours. Good value apart from extortionate beer prices. Excellent atmosphere, but a touch noisy when busy. Book ahead at peak times.
La Tasca – Manchester City CentreKoreana is simply fantastic. We had exquisite potato pancakes with dipping sauce, wonderfully spicy seafood hotpot (chigae), deep-fried tofu and spicy beef stew. All served piping hot. I would encourage everyone to try this food, it's such a shame it's not more popular or known even. Great service, lovely relaxed oriental atmosphere. If you like tasty and spicy food you will love Koreana.
Koreana – Manchester City CentreOne of our all time faves in town, great for brunch on the weekend, never dissapoints, no pretention. just reliable, The wine list needs impoving.
Mud Crab at Grinch – Manchester City Centrelovely atmosphere, friendly staff and fantastic meat. we went on sugarvine cheap eat deal and were very impressed. We will definately go again and recommend it to friends.
Gaucho – Manchester City Centrethis has a great atmosphere and the marinated meat dishes are subtle and delicious, even the rice is cooked to perfection, a safe bet on a saturday night, good place to take the mistress.
Cafe Istanbul – Manchester City CentreMy favourite place to eat in Chorlton, simple menu done very well, the quality of the food is exemplary I believe the meat comes from Frosts in Chorlton- a proper Butcher. The steaks at the bar are as good as I have had anywhere even at three times the price. Highly recommended.
Bar, The – Chorltonwe go regularly breakfast, lunch and dinner, good food, great wine list, and super staff, the ingredients are better than usual and it shows in the finished food, the place could do with a re-furb as the decor is old and grim.
Lead Station – Chorltonquite simply one of the best Thais in town, the quality is consistantly good and as an early eat on a saturday it is unsurpassed.
