Peruga At Woodheys – Marplemy partner and I went to the midland with no knowledge other than "brewers fayre" It was a pleasant surprise as the food was excellent, the service perfect and very attentive and surroundings were beautiful. we don't rave very often but do complain if need be and this has set a good standard for others !
The Midland – MarpleMAY 3 2009 Just ate, or rather tried to eat here after a stop off at Etherow park, one reason drew us to this spot, (time) we needed to eat as we had to pick up our children and then take them somewhere else. We ordered a Hot pot pie from the restaurant menu and a rump steak baguette, which, as was my preference to be cooked medium rare. The two came but the steak baguette was over cooked beyond redemption, also it looked suspiciously like the meat had stood at some point as it had surfaces to it that were dried out. When i asked the waitress did she ask the chef to cook my steak med rare, she said she had and would i like her to take it back. I agreed only to be met 1 minute later by a very rude and aggressive man who claimed he couldnt cook it med rare as "it was not hot enough" not sure what he meant by that but i presume he meant the stove. When i then asked could he provide me with what i ordered he went into the most bizarre rant and repeated over again that "it comes in strips and that it cant be cooked med rare" He then produced the strips of meat that were cooked exactly the way i would have wanted them and said "look they have got blood in it " With some surprise !!!!!!!!!! I then asked was it a problem at which the guy replied "actually it was" So i asked not to bother and indeed that is what he did. Now far be it for me to assume, but i thought steak does'nt always come in strips but in erm....... steak form. I paid for the hot pot which my wife told me was just ok and the drinks we had. i spoke to the other person which i now believe to be the guys partner and she told me he was'nt a chef. Hmmmmm then why was he cooking ? Does he have basic food handlers certificate ? My advice to anyone is do not eat there at all costs ! If you like your pint served with rudeness then this is the place for you if not find somewhere where they do want your custom.
Barnhouse, The – MarpleFour of us ate here on Saturday 6th September 2008. The service and food were excellent (despite the fact they had a wedding party booked in). I would have no problems in recommending this restaurant to anybody. It was probably the best meal I have had for years. Well done Peruga!
Peruga At Woodheys – MarpleThe Romper has changed hands quite a few times in the last few years. Up until recently, it was a traditional pub which also had a very nice dining area with beams and a coaching house type of feel to it. The food and service at that time were of a very high standard and so it was that in late July 2008, we decided to have an evening out at the Romper again. We booked a table for 7pm and on arrival, we were surprised to note that it had changed hands again, this time becoming the Romper Mediterranean restaurant. Considering that it was a fine Saturday evening, the outside decked area was busy and yet the restaurant inside was almost empty! Nevertheless we took our table and ordered. Whilst waiting, I noted the internal refurbishments which, whilst adequate, i felt detracted from the traditional feel of the place and i much preferred it as it used to be. My starter of Lentil soup arrived and I had the distinct feeling that it might actually be tinned with some garnish added ! Onto the main course, lamb kebabs with rice and salad. No complaints about the lamb, well cooked and tasty. The salad, i think, was from a packet and was limp and not very fresh. The rice was dry and didn't seem to be freshly cooked. I also had a feeling that my glass of cider was somewhat lacking in strength! We paid our bill and left. We shall not return and sadly, i cannot recommend the Romper Mediterranean
The Romper – MarpleWent to the Romper in Marple, food (and wine) was absolutely first class and reasonably priced, really good choice. The service was also excellent. The refurbishment was stunning although I must admit it was very disappointing to find the toilets hadn't been included in the refurbishment programme and these left a lot to be desired.
The Romper – MarpleWow...wow...wow who'd of believed that above this quaint village pub lies and amazing Mediterranean Restaurant. Friendly Staff, Fine Ales, Fabulous food and very reasonable too who could ask for more!!! Will be returning without a doubt
Duke Of York – MarpleThis place is pretty awful, actually. The food is an awful mix of British and foreign (Indian, Chinese etc) cuisine, none of it done particularly well. In addition, when we went the place was practically empty yet it still took around an hour to get our meals.
Barnhouse, The – Marplegreat restaurant, excellent atmosphere. Murillos is full even on a Tuesday night in November so best booking. Normally works out about 25 pounds a head with a bottle of house Valencia red and a couple of drinks. Good waiting team and very smart place to dine or have a drink as we notice lot of ladies having a drink and few tapas. We will go back.
We went to The Romper off the back of another recent review following the refurbishment (not quite finished - toilets are the last to be done but won't take long apparently!). We had 3 main courses, one dessert (only one of us still had room after the large main courses) and one bottle of very nice wine and the cost was just over £45. We were served promptly and the food was perfectly cooked, well presented and very hot! The staff were very attentive without being intrusive. The surroundings are now subtly modern, but complementary of the old building. They are serving a Mediterranean menu so there is plenty of choice. We will definitely be going back!
The Romper – MarpleAfter the recent refurbishment, this pub has been transformed into a truly beautiful restaurant. I believe this to be the nicest food I have tasted in Cheshire and South Manchester for years! We have been twice this week and will surely be going again
The Romper – MarpleI can honestly say ,without any exaggeration, that our meal at Peruga was by far the best meal we've ever experienced. The finest food in stunning surroundings, topped off with first class service. You'd be a fool NOT to eat here!
Peruga At Woodheys – MarpleI love this restaurant. The staff are very attentive and the food excellent. It doesn't seem to vary as some restaurants do - the standard is always high.
La Dolce Vita Restaurant – Marpleas the cafe relies on people with children often people with several children and the elderly I think the prices are overpriced making it practically impossible for these people to afford. By reducing prices a little it might encourage more people to frequent the place. Apart from that the cafe is very pleasant.
Etherow Park Cafe – MarpleWe have just returned from an evening at Peruga, our first visit there and we were not disappointed. As stated previously the menu is limited, however the food was fantastic. I enjoyed the Oat rolled Mackerel so much that I was a little cheeky & asked how it was cooked! The Chef came out to tell me at which point we were able to compliment him. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely return very soon.
Peruga At Woodheys – MarpleIts often the case that you go back to a restaurant and it doesn't live up to your memory, so when we returned here we did so with some trepidation. Not to worry. why the place remains a hidden gem I don't know. I do like my food cooked to my taste, not slapped down as the chef turned it out. Nothing from plastic bags, and no nouvelle cuisine, fresh home cooked and plenty of it. Delicious
Cow And Calf Inn – MarpleFantastic restaurant, unique in decor with a good atmosphere. Good prices for good food and nice beers.
Barnhouse, The – MarpleThe first visit to this restaurant in a uniquely beautiful situation overlooking open countryside was very surprising. It was previously Woodheys of Marple until it re-opened in August 2006 by Mac Peruga. The car park was quiet this Sunday lunchtime in mid October. We were apprehensive that it might lead to disappointment. The menu seemed limited We stuck with it however and it turned out to be an unusual concept with very well presented food, absolutely perfectly cooked. The young staff displayed a friendly refreshingly professional approach Well trained young staff are few and far between. Marc Peruga impressed us by realistically concentrating on excellently prepared food from good suppliers and a shorter menu rather than an extensive impossible menu of questionable quality. Very commendable! The customers began to fill the place and improve the atmosphere before we had ordered. We will return
