Friendly staff and very fresh seasonal food, small venue but great atmosphere.
Slice Of Sicily – Preston
Preston in Lancashire is a cosmopolitan city located on the River Ribble and is also the home of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN). Many restaurants and food pubs can be found in the city centre and its suburbs.
Friendly staff and very fresh seasonal food, small venue but great atmosphere.
Slice Of Sicily – Prestonbeware if you are gluten intolerant! Having rung prior to visiting the smiths arms on monday 15th nov,to ask if they catered for a gluten free diet,i was assured that it was not a problem.Yet on the night, there was hardly anything on the menu that was gluten free. When i asked for various items i was told sorry they contain flour.I had to settle for chicken curry and rice which was brought to the table with guess what????? only a naan bread!.What a dangerous place for somebody with food intolerances to eat.
Smiths Arms – PrestonI haven't chosen to recommend Checco's. The staff were patronising and condescending, for what is little more than a Pizza Express in what feels like a cheaply decorated community centre. My main gripe against Checco's, was the focaccia bread fiasco. I ordered tomato focaccia bread, the waiter brought me garlic bread with tomato sauce on it, I asked the waiter if he'd brought me garlic bread with tomato sauce on it, he told me yes he had, so I pointed out that I had ordered the focaccia bread. He replaced my garlic bread with another garlic bread, this time I asked if it was focaccia bread, and he patted me on the back and told me it was. The garlic bread happened to be more expensive, so thumbs up in the long run. But being treated like a idiot is not going to win repeat customers or a positive review.
Checcos – Preston4 of us went to east z east on a saturday night. very busy when we arrived 2 large parties in, we were shown straight to our table, drinks order taken straight away. our poppadoms/ starters were delivered swiftly and were delicious and it all looked very promising. However the mains were disappointing, bland, tasteless, the naan breads were very dry. Plus poorly presented. The service was slightly over the top too. We must have been asked at least 3 times by different waiters during each course if the food was ok , and it got a little annoying to be disturbed so many times when you are trying to eat. Once we had finished our food we planned to sit at our table a little longer to finish the bottle of wine. we were asked to go through to the bar to free up the table. fair enough we thought they were busy, but it was now after 10pm. 20 minutes later i had to walk back through the restaurant to the toilet only to find at least 10 empty tables so was struggling to understand why we had been moved back to the bar so quickly? I have heard good reviews about this place so am disappointed it didn't live up to them. I will probably stick to the Indian nearer home instead.
East Z East – PrestonAfter a day walking in the Trough we enjoyed a nice meal in here. The service was extremely professional, which was a surprise for a country pub. We were also allowed to take our dog in too.
The Ribchester Arms – PrestonI had a meal at Trattoria San Marco , the food was excellent. The restaurant was really bright and had lots of natural light. This is easily one of the best Italian restaurants within the north west. Keep it up!
Trattoria San Marco – PrestonMy wife and I from Oregon U.S.A. are in town to visit our cousins in Walton-le-Dale. The food was great. I had salmon that was worth coming from Oregon to eat. Please stop by and have some food. Ken Murphy
New Hall Tavern – PrestonI had lunch with a business colleague on Friday 24th September 2010. The 2 course offer of £10.90 is excellent value for money. The quality of the food was amazing and service matched. The atmosphere was great as well with a few Birthday celebrations in for lunch as well. I will definitely be returning!
Trattoria San Marco – PrestonHaving read the positive recommendations from other subscribers to this website we visited this restaurant on Saturday 18th September to take advantage of an offer of 20% reduction of the total bill as advertised in Live Preston. The restaurant website and menu is great and the restaurant itself is lovely and the service is good but the food was the worst I have eaten in any Indian restaurant in Lancashire. You would fare much better at any takeaway and it was not a patch on the ready made Indians from Asda. We started with poppadoms and a mixed pickle tray. The pickles you will recognise as you can buy them yourselves from any supermarket. We then ordered the Bangla Combo Platter. The kebabs were very processed - probably frozen, the fried aubergines were greasy and tasted of batter and the spring rolls tasted of nothing . We had different main courses. I had Chicken tandoori which was dry and tasteless. I made the mistake of ordering chicken off the bone so I ended up with meat that tasted reconstituted. My partner had Bangal Kursi and the lamb was overcooked and although he was provided with a sharp knife the meat was so dry he could not swallow it without a drink of water. The Rajshah scallops tasted like bits of jelly in tomato sauce. We were offered replacement meals but by this time we just wanted to leave. When we asked for the bill we were overcharged.I do not think we are over discerning eaters we just like good food well cooked. You will get neither at this restaurant.
Nellie The Elephant – Prestonthe place looks fantastic the food is traditional and with out any fuss, stone bake pizza and lasagna are the best I ever had round here the wine is value for money
Il Gusto D’ Italia – PrestonWe've eaten here a few times now and its probably the nearest Preston gets to a decent gastropub. Lovely outside beer garden and the pub gets very busy during summer. Really good atmosphere and relaxed surroundings, great range of continental beers and a knowledgeable and friendly staff get meals off to a good start. Belgium fruit beers on tap as well as good real ales and a superb bottled beer selection. Top marks for the range of non-alcoholic Fentimens drinks and a choice of dealcoholized beer for drivers. Portions are large, nicely presented and the chef clearly has masterchef aspirations. For a light meal a starter will certainly suffiice. A goats cheese and baked beetroot tartlet resembled an impressionist work of art and was delicious. Ditto the smoked chicken salad. The 4 hour slow cooked belly pork is fantastic and a personal favourite although you won't be able to fit in a sweet and starter with it. Sweets are mini works of art - there can't be that many chefs as nifty with the sugar basket work. Only criticism is that the interesting menu leaned a bit towards autumnal hearty choices throughout the summer and a large proportion of the dishes seemed to be accompanied by the veal stock boulangere potatoes. (Nonetheless they are very tasty). Great to have a place where you get the sense that the chef's heart is genuinely in the food, it is made on the premises rather than coming out of a freezer and that offers a genuinely interesting choice.
The Continental – PrestonLast week was the first time I had visited your restaurant. We booked for dinner time. The meal was wonderful. Excellent value and very good service. I will be recommending it.
The Sirloin Inn – PrestonFabulous restaurant, it's my fave Thai in Lancashire. The food is absolutely delicious, with no concessions made to Western tastes (in a good way) the service is always warm and welcoming. Don't be out off by the rather pink decor, it's part of the experience and is just a sign that this place is all about the food.
Thai Orchid The – PrestonWe had our wedding reception at Tinos, after the wedding ceremony and then for the evening party. We cannot emphasise enough how lovely the family are and how helpful they all were. Even my two boys who are 9 and 5 enjoyed both events. Everyone still comments now on how wonderful the food was and how good the service was. The whole family especially Lynne made our day very very special and very very memorable. We cannot recommend Tinos enough.
Tinos – PrestonVery nice food , great service must try lamb leg roast, mango lassi
Bukhara – PrestonFirst time at the Pond and the last. Party of 8 and had the £20 menu. Very disappointed. It certainly was not value for money. One piece of bread with cheese and then one sliver of hamloumi. Then three chicken dishes and one boiled beef one that was tasteless. One bowl of potatoes. There were two veg. in our party and they had garlic mushrooms and mash with some leaves for £20, I think not. In and out in under and hour !!!
Duk-Pond – Prestonwent to the barton bangla brasserie with my boyfriend as he had heard of it but never been there. the inside was really nicely decorated, we had a drink in the waiting area which was comfortable. the food was amazing, best Indian food i have ever eaten, good portion size and so delicious. the staff were friendly and i am definitely going back there
Barton Bangla Brasserie – PrestonAlways a delight, where do I start? The staff are brilliant, friendly helpful and attentive, their faces light up like the Mediterranean sun. The wines are delicious, and then there's the food. The Terruel ham & Manchego with a glass of Riojan Viuira was my 1st lunch experience, deeeelisshhus. Anything with Chorizo in it gets my vote but The Deli Med is the best Chorizo I've ever bought in this country, so now I can't pass by without buying some. If you haven't been you have to try this little piece of the Med in Preston .
