The French is so different to what it used to be. Simon Rogan of L'Enclume has firmly put his mark on the menu and style of decor. We tried it for the first time onSaturday lunchtime and were amazed by the food. There is no a la carte. At lunch there are 3 menus to choose from, 3, 6 or 10 courses. We chose the 6 course. We sat down at 1 and rolled out well after 4! Don't be worried that there isn't a choice as such - the staff will ask if there's anything you dislike, but I just thought I'd let the kitchen sort out the meal and I was right! As well as the advertised courses, little tasty extras appear at the beginning and end of your meal. The staff know what they're talking about. Listen to them! We were recommended a sherry to go with one course. They were right. It's not a big restaurant, so it will get booked up quickly. It's not cheap, but you won't have food like it anywhere else in Manchester. If you liked the oldFrench, it may not be your style. It is my style and I'll be going back as many times as the bank allows me

A must as a treat, wonderful service and a gastronmical experience which will be hard to beat anywhere. Booking is essential.

We decided to treat ourselves for our 6th anniversary and what a treat!!! We did the gastronomique menu at £85 per head, which comprised 7 courses of food, along with 4 glasses of wine. The food was special, the service outstanding, the surroundings superb. Definitely THE place in Manchester if you are looking for that je ne sais quoi

A proper "old school" restaurant with a Maitre D' (Bruno) that has been there 38 years+!! Fabulous food, wine and service. Not cheap, but save up, dress up and enjoy. As soon as the bank manager gives me the all clear, I'll be back...
French Restaurant, The
