We were staying at the Cedar Court Hotel round the corner from this restaurant and stumbled upon by chance. It was lively and had lovely decor. The food was tasty and there was lots of it. The meal was personalised to our tastes, they added extra chillis! The staff were friendly and very efficient, if we're ever in York again we would eat at Akbars.

the best Indian restaurant experience that i have had in years 5 star

Having been to both the Akbars in Leeds in knew what to expect, decor was similar modernist (bit to much red lighting for me but that's just personal taste), poppadoms arrived these were soft and to be honest tasted like either yesterdays or some left over from the Lunch serving, not impressed at all, main course was hot with decent sized portions, however the food was totally over salted to the point where all you could taste was salt, I had ordered the Lamb and spinach balti which fro all the world was a lamb sagg by any other name, price was a little on the high side for an Indian but not ridiculous, got to be honest all in all not impressed with the food in this Akbars the one on Greek St in Leeds is better.

I visited this restaurant for the first time on my Birthday this year after numerous recommendations from friends. From the minute I walked in I liked it, not shabby interior like recent Indian restaurants i have visited, chic and sophisticated, the lighting gave a relaxed mood in which we enjoyed drinks whilst browsing the menu. There were 5 of us eating and we shared poppadoms and dips for starters which were lovely and the waiters were very attentive. We ordered our main courses and with prior knowledge of the size of the nans, were careful not to over order as they are huge!! I had the chicken korma and it was just divine, creamy, tasty, the best I?e ever had and the nans were cooked (freshly, you can see them making them in the glass fronted Kitchen) to perfection. With persuasion from my mum i accepted the ice cream and sparkler and was highly surprised/embarrassed when all the waiters gathered round to sing to me! We had our photo taken by Polaroid and given it in a presentation card which was a very nice gesture, a memory now i can cherish. The only niggle i had was that they cleared up so fast you had to make sure you hadn't left anything on your plate you actually wanted! But with the amount of food on tables this is hardly a criticism, just efficiency i suppose. The total bill was very reasonable and i have been longing to go back ever since!! (i'm working on the boyfriend!!)
