The Alverne represents a very good dining experience. The food might be characterised as modern British with European influences. It was well presented in proper proportion. While not cheap, the food represented excellent value. The ambience was very pleasant; tables sufficiently far apart to allow privacy but not suggesting a hushed atmosphere. The decor and wall hangings were fresh, modern, eye-catching and pleasing. My only quibble was that the wine was opened away from the table. But the waitresses were so personable and unobtrusively keen that I did not complain, particularly as the wine was as it claimed on the bottle.
