Anarkali best curry house in Glasgow bar none and I have been about
Laura And Craig
Where to start. . . . the fantastic value for money....the friendly welcoming atmosphere....the outstanding portion sizes. or simply the high quality, wonderful tasting dishes this Indian offers?
For us the Anarkali is something we have both grown up with, recommended by several family members from different generations who have frequented the restaurant since it opened. As a result the staff have become a surrogate family themselves!
As previous reviews have mentioned other more modern, 'trendier' Indian restaurants across Glasgow have disappointed on several occasions. Nowhere ever seems to be able to meet the high standard of service or great tasting variety of dishes available on offer at this South Side eatery.
But don't just take our word for it - go try it yourself! Oh and one last word of advice - book in advance if you plan on going on a weekend as it's always packed......need we say more?!

we don't want to recommend the Anarkali because we want to keep it to ourselves. Fantastic food, really friendly staff and BYOB - what more can you want? Been to many other Indian restaurants but none come near it for quality and value. Please don't redecorate - we like the 70s decor!

I was introduced to the Anerkali experience by my daughter for whom the Anerkali is her local restaurant. The service, the quality & quantity of the food is tremendous. The restaurant is a compact and homely environment where so many are regulars and like me having tasted the anerkali experience once are instantly smitten and return again and again. (Trulysmitten)

Anarkali is my local curry house, but I would travel across Glasgow to get to it - its really that good. However, I'd like to comment on the remarks below which concern me about the area. I live in one of those traditional Glasgow tennament flats or 'dosshouses' as the previous comment says, drink in many of the 'dens', or pubs as we call them and have never witnessed a drive by shooting in all my years there and in the vast number of visits to Anarkali, have never witnessed any ladies of the nite, drunks swigging from vodi bottles or curry flying around. Dont be put off by the last comment, its the south side of Glasgow - not Helmand Province!!

A pal of mine told me about the Anarkali about a year ago. Coming from the east end of glasgow myself i had only ever really eaten curries from kebab shops and the like. The delhi Darbar in auchinairn is probably about the best i had had til then.
however, after one visit to the Anarkali i was hooked. The chicken tikki karahi is amazing and the garlic naan was indescribable. the portion sizes are huge so me and the missus usually get one meal to share and we're still completely stuffed afterwards.
the best indian i've ever had....thats no lie. I reckon you'd need to jump a flight to india to taste a better indian meal.
plus its directly accross the road from the Tir Connail bar ans the Queens Park cafe which is handy for a pre-meal drink.
Enjoy

found this place while working for strathclyde busses on victoria road in 1996, used to get a 3 hr break on a Friday , all the guys tried a different place on a Friday, then we found here, brought my wife from then onwards , , , we have a passion for Indian food, ate it all over the world, but nothing compares to anarkali, , , , don't go anywhere else now , ,, , tho we have tried just about everywhere, so we come here twice a week every week, the food is always first class, great portions , and the sizzlers and huge nan breads to kill for, its a simple place inside, not really changed in our 13 years, but is worth every penny, if i had a chance i wouldn't change it for the world, we have become good friends with all the staff, they know us on first name terms and we know all them, wouldn't eat anywhere else , its amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!, cheap as well, prices hardly changed in years, well done amin and the boys,, , , also sample alex the delivery drivers patter if you can, , he is a scream

I have been going to the Anarkali restaurant for many years as it is the best Indian restaurant in Glasgow without doubt, if not Britain. I have only sampled 5 or 6 Indian restaurants outside of Glasgow in places such as Manchester, London and Aberdeen to name a few, though none of them compare to this hidden gem.
A Lot of Glasgow punters bang on about Cafe India and The Village so I sampled them myself which I later regretted. The reason for this is I did not taste the same passion that I do with the Anarkalis food.
The quality of food for sale in the Anarkali and size of portions make even the most dubious of curry lovers quiver. My tipple is the Chicken Tikka Tandoori Sizzlar which comes with rice or nan, salad and a quality curry sauce (which i use the next day for a prawn curry). My girlfriend always goes for the classic Chicken Bhoona which really does rock her world. For starters I would recommend Vegitable pakora, for its freshness and size of portion, as well as the Chicken Chaat for its sheer quality of texture. To top it all off the staff are bubbly and really enthusiastic about their food and this shows when your food is delivered to your table or door with take aways being a great option on a Sunday when we all sometimes get that dreaded hangover!
In summary if your looking for a real hidden gem then look no further than Victoria Road and make the Anarkali your local Indian food place.

A hidden Gem set in the wrong end of town, and unchanged in 30 years. You take your life in your hands getting here (A number of doss houses and cheap hotels surround the place) but inside the staff are great and the chef expert at the craft of tasty extra large portions served from the pot to the table in seconds. Try any of the sizzlers for a real taste bud experience. Over the 10 years we have been regulars here there have been puch up's, drive by shootings, lots of spilt wine, but always a great night to be had with Amin and his trusty bunch of helpers, not forgetting his Dad in the kithen. South Indian Chilli Ccicken & Tandori Mix are a couple of our choices, & you get to bring your own wine, beer, spirits etc. Nan bread is the size of a suitcase & takeaways are cheap, tasty and in mega proportions.

I visited many restaurants in and around the Glasgow area for most of my 42 years, and none can match the quality of food in this place. Not only is the food good but there is plenty of it unlike the more "Trendy" places and to top it all the price is excellent two course meal sitting for two £21 and if you take it away chop a fiver off that. This palace is a must for curry lovers so nip up Victoria road and get yer belly full
