Had a fantastic night at the Astoria. The food was exceptional, the service was outstanding and I couldn't fault a thing.. except maybe the owner who beat me at chess whilst waiting for the taxi. Don't worry Ill be back for a re match when I haven't had so much to drink!!!

we went for the hot rock buddy system which was a great experience we added starters and dessert of chocolate pot which was amazingly naughty the food was all lovely but what stood out the most was the service, so friendly and welcoming this is top of the list of why we will be going back asap atmosphere so relaxing and the prices are really good for the level of excellence they provide :)))))

0/10! Absolutely awful! We went on a groupon offer that included a starter, 'Hot Rock Buddy System' and a drink each. When we arrived we were ignored for about 15 minutes before someone decided to show us to our table, our original table wasn't ready so they sat us next to the bar on a table with a wipe clean plastic table cloth. We then ordered our food and had to wait at least 45 minutes for the starter to come, when it did come it was nothing to write home about at all. Then we waited a further 45 minutes for out Hot Rock to come. I had to complain about the portion sizes as soon as it came, there were three of us and they had brought a tiny bowl of chips, a tiny bowl of salad, 2 small pieces of chicken, 2 small pieces of what they called fillet steak (more like stewing steak) a few prawns and 2 asparagus spears! They brought a bit more food, but I still thought it was a bit short. This is advertised at being 440 degrees. it wasn't even hot enough to cook the prawns! We sat looking at the food waiting for it to cook and it never did. So once again I had to complain. They offered us any meal off the a la carte menu, so we all chose and expected the food to come quickly seeing as we'd been messed about. We waited another 30 minutes and after the food still hadn't arrived we paid for our drinks and left. The people on the table next to us didn't even get given a Hot Rock, they we're just told to choose something else off the menu. As we we're leaving they gave us our vouchers back to go back free of charge but we won't be returning. We travelled over an hour to try it out and was very disapointed. The restaurant wasn't too clean either and they had a child running around in the kitchen. Stay away.

Spent another great evening at surfers. Whenever we have family and friends over for the weekend the first place we try to book is surfers. The food is excellent and good value for money. This is a great place to go with children as everyone old and young are made to feel welcome. We will be back!

Do not go here! They provided a children's meal that was so hot it burnt my child's finger. Not only that but I had to complain twice to get any reaction & even then they charged me"!!!! The excuse - "we like to have everything hot" Why then was my meal cold was the same meal but a child's portion so hot!

Went for a family 21st last night - the food was incredibly poor quality -i didn't think it possible to get Nachos so wrong! Burgers were served with a slice of processed cheese and on fast food style buns! potato mash was described as inedible by a member of our group, while the rest of us were served oven chips! Surfers-reduce your menu size and concentrate on getting things didn't, not doing everything.

Surfers has new owners and we went last night using a groupon deal whereby the food we purchased was to the value of £36 but obviously we paid less. Husband had chicken goujons to start which were ok but we then had the 'Hot Rock' main and it can only be described as totally inadequate! It was supposed to be for two people but consisted of one chicken breast, two and a half 'bitty' scallops, three king prawns, approx 3ozs of frying steak and two asparagus spears! I then had malteser profiteroles for dessert, they were chronic...two profiteroles filled with canned squirty cream!
I can honestly say that if we had had to pay the full price we would have refused....extremely poor value and we certainly will not be returning

I had booked the surfers restaurant through a voucher site. Before going I had read up on the reviews and was quite excited about the concept. That was until we arrived!!. The place was empty not a soul in sight. Fair enough it was a Monday evening. Still quite daunting. The staff were friendly and very attentive but the food was shocking!! The starters were ok to be fair. Homemade pate was nice. The main on the other hand was not. With the voucher we got the sharing buddy system where you cook your own food on a hot rock. Advertised was chicken, fillet steak, king prawns and scallops. There was no scollops, the fillet steak looked like off cuts which wen u put on the hot rock stuck as they were that small and you could not get them off. There was not enough food at all. We ordered dessert of profiteroles with bot chocolate and maltesers sauce. Well that was a joke. It was two stale profiteroles squishy cream from a can. And no sign of malteser. This was a very disappointing experience and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. If I had to pay full price I would not have been happy at all!!!

06/07/2011 Went to Surfers last night for a meal with my sister and her boyfriend. Service was excellent as usual. We all opted for the fillet steak rossini....... fabulous! Steaks just melted in the mouth. Well done Surfers. Keep it up!! Amazes me how so many people still haven't discovered this jewel in the crown of Wirral's restaurants. Don't miss out!!
