What a wonderful restaurant. My husband and I dined there on Friday 18 September 2009. We had just got married that day and the staff made us feel incredibly special. The food was fantastic and the singer sang a romantic song for us.
We will most definitely be recommending the restaurant to our friends.

Excellent place that you must visit. We have eaten at this restaurant twice now, Jan 08 and Mar 09 on each of our last two visits to York and thoroughly enjoyed it each time. The menu is interesting, original and delicious, the food is reasonably priced and the service is second to none. The atmosphere is intimate and friendly and due to the lateness of our booking we had to eat early (6.00pm) to be able to get a table, but were compensated with a choice of a complimentary bottle of red or white wine. Given the place is nearly 3 hours away from our home address we can not visit as often as we would like, otherwise I would be there every week, but I have to say it is one of the reasons we choose to visit York when we can get away.

The Ate O Clock is my favourite restaurant in York and I would not hesitate to recommend it. We visited last night for my birthday meal and the food was wonderful - trio of fish especially. The ambience is second to none and the food amazing. 10/10

This was highly recommended to me by friends and I was not let down. The restaurant is only small so we were lucky to make a reservation as it was fully booked by around 1130. We arrived early which gave us chance to view the wine list in the comfortable waiting area. We were seated within five minutes before our actual reservation time. When seated we were given short but specific details of the specials board, how fresh the main ingredients were and where they came from. My partner and I both ate starter and main courses off the specials board although the main menu looked both original and appealing too. All the food seemed fresh, local produce prepared on the premises. The staff were all well presented and knowledgeable about the food and wine. I found the atmosphere very relaxing and comfortable and the service was excellent throughout the night. After fantastic food, wine and service I would rate my experience of this restaurant very highly and will certainly return in the future.

We can not fault this restaurant at all! We have eaten the chef Kennys food before at the Blue bicycle and at a wedding, and could not wait to try this place. It did not let us down at all, the ambience was second to none, the staff friendly and helpful, but the food.......... wow! The best in york in our opinion. The attention Kenny gives to everything is outstanding, the little extras such as homemade bread in different flavours, the fact he makes the effort of coming personally to see if all is ok and plenty more I could rabbit on about. Can not wait till we go again.

We have been trying to track down the chef originally from The Blue Bicycle for quite some time and last week we found him, the new owner of Ate O'Clock.
We had a wonderful evening helped by the fact that the staff were extremely friendly and efficient, the atmosphere was great and the food fantastic. The owner/chef is extremely attentive and helps to make you feel very special.
Go and have a look...The best chef in York!!
In our opinion the best chef in York...Go and have a look...
Marjorie and Beate,
Being Coeliac and holidaying with my friend from Germany, we were thrilled with the intimate, inclusive atmosphere, the exquisite food and the confidence to know my food intolerance was understood and did not detract from the wonderful menu choices. Can't wait to go back.

We visited the ate o'clock restaurant as a party of 5 adults and 2 children under 4. I have to say it was an excellent experience the staff were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome like we were the only guests there. The food was excellent the wine was nice and very well priced. EXCELLENT!!!

We were made welcome on arrival, the service was calm and efficient, the ambience good.
The food, from the chef's tit-bit of poached pear in balsamic to the desserts every thing was perfectly cooked and presented. The wine list was varied and not overpriced.
The best restaurant experience we have had in many a year

Went to Ate O'Clock last night on the strength of the reviews on this site, and are very glad we did. 'Small, but perfectly formed' probably sums the place up; food was spot-on - generous portions and cooked beautifully; not cheap, but fairly-priced. Staff very friendly, offering chef's tasters between courses. Had to wait a little while when we first arrived due to a large group in just before us, but didn't spoil the meal. Chef visited all the tables at the end of the evening to check if everyone was happy, which was a nice touch you don't see very often. To top it all there was a great musician there all night. A really amiable chap with an acoustic guitar and encyclopedic repertoire of great music. It really gave the place a great ambiance
