The previous night we had been to the Theatre Royal and tried the competitor on the other side of Grey Street (Zizzi) which was truly dreadful. So it was with somewhat low expectations that we went to Barluga. We were very pleasantly surprised. There was a very good live jazz band playing. We had a very nice bottle of wine, and the quick bite tempura prawns, beef sandwich and a massive portion of potatoes wedged chips. Excellent value and served very promptly. Highly recommended for a quick pre-theatre bite.

Only one visit - valentines day 2005.
Probably not a fair reflection as there was a special menu and price for the evening.
Food was truly outstanding - many many small courses over a few hours with nice breaks for a chat and a drink. Cost more than I'd usually spend but it was a special occasion and as such very good value for money.
We had a look at the full menu whilst we were there (seemed a bit fancy There wasn't much choice if you don't eat red meat and have a nut allergy. Maybe they were trying too hard to impress - I would have preferred what we were served that night over the a la carte menu - maybe they've changed over the summer - We must go back and see.
I'm sure the chef would produce excellent food if what we tasted was representative!
