From the moment you walk through the door of the idyllic Battlesteads, the worries and cares of modern day life seem to melt away.
The welcome from Dee, Richard and their team is as warm as the log burning fires. Beautifully kept cask beers have rightly won the 2010 Best Pub in Britain award and the highest qualities are also reflected in the imaginative menu which takes full advantage of the ecologically produced fruit, vegetables and herbs grown in the Hotel's spectacular gardens.
A summer luncheon "al fresco" in the garden with one of the hotels famous ice creams to finish, "succulent" dinner on a frosty winter's eve with Dee's "to die for" bread and butter pudding can only be enhanced by a nightcap or two in the bar, a restful night's sleep and a hearty Northumbrian breakfast which you can
"walk off" in the spectacular, rolling hills which surround the village. Perfection.

Have stayed twice at Battlesteads and longing to return. Richard, Dee and the team run a fabulous operation and the food, beers and accommodation cannot be faulted. Best of all this is a genuinely 'green' business; driving down costs and waste, caring for the environment and proving that doing this is not at odds with running a excellent business.
