The chef has left this restaurant and can't you tell. David Mooney who has built a great reputation for this restaurant is no longer behind the stove at the Belle Epoque and I think you can tell both in the quality of the food and in the attitude of the staff. Not a good dining experience.

We held our wedding here in June 2007. What a fantastic place and the perfect choice. We knew the food was great but the whole package was brilliant - the surroundings, the food, the wine, the service - all amazing. We still get people commenting that its the best wedding they've ever been to. People just raved about the menu we chose and the quality of the food. We were also made to feel that ours was the first and most important wedding ever held there. For a wedding venue that's a real accomplishment. The beauty of the Belle though is whether its a wedding or a meal for 2, you won't be disappointed.

Firstly, we had to beg for service even drinks.
We waited for well over half an hour before anyone came to take our order for food or drinks, we then waited a further 45 mins for our starter. I had the oxtail which was completely tasteless. The fish cakes were nearly cold -just about passable.
Two of our party had the halibut which was overcooked tasteless and lukewarm, and the duck wasn’t much better. I had the lobster which was just okay. When we finished each course, we sat for at least 45 mins before anyone came to clear the plates we literally had to keep flagging someone down each time to clear the table and if we wanted a drink because no one came to the table to ask us if we wanted anything.
One of our party had the apple pie which was micro waved soggy and looked like it had come out of a Mr. Kipling's pack.
I asked for blackcurrant and lemon sorbet and got ginger and mango When I flagged this up to the waitress she lost her temper and told me this was what I had ordered when it clearly wasn’t and she was fed up and going to get the manager.
When someone finally came I said forget it because I just couldn’t be bothered anymore all we wanted to pay the bill and go home (and it was after 11pm by this time).
We also had coffee which again was lukewarm
We were polite at all times so couldn’t understand why the waitress was so aggressive towards us.
So all in all this was one of the worst meals we have ever had.

we went to celebrate a friends 30th birthday and had the most wonderful meal. The staff were very accommodating, the food was cooked to perfection and the menu is very flexible. The belle epoque made a special cake for our celebrations and presented it very tastefully. Thank you for making the birthday celebrations very special.

The Belle Epoque has been a favourite for years and never fails to please. Food is always excellent, the atmosphere and surroundings always wonderful and the staff always friendly and most helpful. Keep up the good work - we hope to continue enjoying the experience for many years to come!
