We visited for my daughter's 24th birthday lunch, as a party of 5 we had not booked and were delighted with the attentive and friendly service offered to us immediately. We had a very tight time frame as we were picking up our mother from the RVI your staff and chef did everything you possibly could providing delicious food and excellent, well paced service. My daughter was touched with the complementary glass of champagne and to finish us off some little treats to take to my mum who was leaving hospital after a serious operation. We sincerely wish to thank your staff; we have visited many hotels and resturants in the NE and beyond a rate you and your staff highly. We will be visiting again and recommending you to our friends and family.

such a great spot for a restaurant - feels like you have escaped the city! tried black pudding for the first time on my last visit and it was superb, followed by a really delicate north sea fish cake. a thoroughly enjoyable meal. I always enjoy going to blackfriars.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Newcastle, service is usually very friendly yet professional and food is always fantastic. Last time I visited was in December with my husband and 6 month old baby for lunch (lunch menu is usually the same as the dinner menu and £10 per head cheaper!),the food as ever was fantastic but I found the waiters a bit stiff and surly, the waitresses were friendlier however. I don't think the waiters looked keen on us bringing the baby in - even though he was no bother and was quiet throughout the meal!

Food fresh, tasty and well presented. Relaxed atmosphere, ideal for a Sunday lunch. One observation, not a complaint, room temperature could have been a little warmer.

dined here whilst working in Newcastle recently. fantastic starter of local cheese fritter and tomato jam. the tenderest piece of beef i think i've ever had. bailey? pud was not in keeping with the quality of the rest of the food. i think it had been microwaved. all in all though a terrific meal.

The most relaxed atmosphere and most beautiful of any restaurant I?e been to in Newcastle.

Service excellent and ambience superb - plenty of space between tables. Lamb and halibut were superb - Wine top rate - deserts excellent. 2 Adults and 1 kid £95 - without starters but including a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Produce local and well sourced - this goes some way to explain the relatively high price for Newcastle. Chicken & Chips, lemonade & ice cream for our 11 year old was not good value for £21.75! Chicken was unfortunately dry and overcooked - but as this was a non-menu item we didn't make much of a fuss. However, we will definitely return with other adults. In short - Excellent for adults but leave the kids at home.
Mick, Newcastle.
Best value for money in Newcastle at the moment.
Great food and excellent service. Be sure you have the three courses so as not to miss out on anything.
Blackfriars Cafe Bar
An outstanding restaurant with a lively atmosphere. The service was both helpful and quick. Would definitely return
Blackfriars Cafe Bar
For authentic atmosphere and an inventive combination of British and international cuisine - head to Blackfriars - a secluded 9th century temple, just behind Newcastle's Chinatown. It has style and a great selection of wine, a waiting list and a ban on smoking. But even the smokers will consider it well worth the trouble.
