I went to this restaurant yesterday with my friend as we were staying in darlington and were unable to eat at the hotel as it was fully booked. We walked round the town looking for venues and liked the look of the menu so chose the blue lagoon. So pleased we did. The food was delicious, portions huge and all the staff were lovely. I was full after a starter and main course but my friend opted for a pudding too, well it was her birthday. She was definitely not disappointed when a huge portion of treacle tart and custard arrived. I'm sure that next time we're back in town will be heading straight there.

i went to the blue lagoon with my husband for a treat, when i walked in, i wanted to walk out straight away, it looked like a cafe, but a friendly man came straight away to seat us, so i thought i would give it the benifit of the doubt. I should of gone with my first instinct! the menu looks like it hasnt changed in 20 years, my husband had the blolognaise risoto, and i had prawn cocktail to start, the risoto looked like it had be defrosted in the microwave, was watery and bland, just slopped on a plate, the prawn cocktail was fair. we waited over half an hour for our main dish, which was roast of the day (beef) and a steak dinner, the roast was truly disgusting!, everything was frozen, yorkshires, frozen veg, frozen roast potatoes, and the mash tasted off!, i ate very little, and it was £9.50! my husbands steak was ok, although they mixed salad and frozen veg which he left. i could not reccommend it highly enough that you go somewhere else! there was also another couple sat by us that also left all of there dinner. I can safely say that all their regular customers are over 60 and have been going there for years and dont know any different! we eat at a lot of nice restaurants, and feel qualified to say that this is truly the worst meal i have ever had. So save your money or choose somewhere else. Unless your over 60 and you have lost your taste and sense of smell. Also a friend of mine said she goes there with her mother under protest and has tried most things on the menu, and non of it is nice.
Blue Lagoon Old Boy
The steaks are fantastic. Apparently lovingly matured by Chris Kattou personally (21 days matured). The fish is superb, they make their own tarter sauce( no bought pap). You have to try the Steak & Kidney Pie on a lunch time, It is out of this world. there are 6 of us who eat there regularly prior to a Mowden Park Rugby match. You have to do It.
gob on a stick
We eat here at least once a month and receive fantastic no frills food at a good price. The staff are great....especially Louise who you feel that you have known her all your life. A true family business that looks after their customers. Try it once and you will be back again.
food buff
As a group of 6 people who regularly eat hear, we can't fault it. It is a no nonsense, down to earth eating house with good food and great staff. I think this is a well kept secret. Don't expect frills and fancies. Chris (proprietor) does fantastic steaks. Matured and prepared to order. Ask for a kebab, you will be surprised (gastronomically)
