Known as Southport's Jewel in the Crown', the Botanic Gardens at Churchtown are set in 23 acres of parkland. They are a relaxing and free day out with floral displays, a unique fernery, an aviary and pets’ corner, an adventure playground for kids and two good bowling greens. Close to the entrance you'll find the Botanic Gardens Café & Banqueting Hall which is opens from 9am until dusk every day of the week. The 120-year-old building has a large conservatory and verandah overlooking the gardens and has been run by the Settle family since 1967. Hot meals and snacks, sandwiches, salads and jacket potatoes all feature on the menu as well as vegetarian dishes and children's meals. They also have one of the largest selections of ice creams in the north west. And on Sundays during the summer brass bands play in the gardens. Also, throughout the year, the room is available for private hire for birthdays, funerals and christenings and there is a regular schedule of events including Motown and Northern Soul, Rat Pack crooners and karaoke.
