Excellent meal on route back to Shropshire from Scarborough. Met son in this pub as he lives in Leeds and a mate recommended it to him. Unfortunately my husband left his reading glasses on the table so we telephoned after we had already got onto motorway and very kindly they were posted back to us. So many thanks to whom it may concern. Great pub.

being American i can be pretty choosie at times. this happens to be my favorite restaurant/pub in the area.the food is excellent and the people are wonderful.the best part is of course the atmosphere, where i come from that's always the main thing. as a matter of fact going there tonight for tea.not a better place to be, in the snow!!!

We have been going here for years. Since my last review in 2006 I must have had at least 100 meals in this Pub and never had a bad experience. Both the food and the service are both as equally consistent. I even convinced workmates to try this pub out on a Lunchtime, we pre-order and it's always ready withing a few minutes of us all arriving.
There is only one downside, there is so much on the menu that my wife likes that it always takes her ages to decide what to have!
One tip though - if you want to go on a Sunday you will need to pre-book as its always busy !

We called in here to check out possible places neat the Kirkless Light Railway for a larger party of people for a birthday lunch.
We were delighted to have chosen this place, it's very homely, very child friendly (our 2 year old son loved the boat in the garden) and the food was fantastic.
The food arrived in a reasonable time, especially considering it's all home made - no evidence of frozen-microwave fodder here. The meals were very tasty and the portions plentiful. How they can maintain such a large choice and home cook everything is anyone's guess, but credit to them they pull it off somehow.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone, it's a friendly pub, well cared for, excellent food. I would suggest you go to eat here rather than pop in for a drink, you won't be disappointed.
Looking forward to our next visit for the Birthday lunch, safe in the knowledge that our family will love it too.

I have visited this pub on several occasions and could not, in all honesty recommend it unless the diner likes lots of deep fried foods or limp salads.
The last time I called in, mum had her lunch of mixed deep fried fish platter, limp salad and tartare sauce and I didn't eat and am glad that I didn't. It does get very busy - so must be more than acceptable to most palates - just not to mine or my husbands

The food here is amazing and all freshly cooked. The home made chips are to die for! The staff are very helpful and friendly and the menu is very varied to suit all tastes. I would suggest that booking is a good idea though especially for Sunday lunch as they do get busy. I would most definitely recommend eating at this pub as I am regular visitor and have never yet been disappointed.

Would never go here again. We went at a Sunday lunchtime for my mums 60th birthday with three children aged 9, 7 and 2. The children were very well behaved, the food took absolutely ages to arrive and when it did my mum (who never complains about anything) said that her scampi did not taste quite right. We mentioned this to a member of staff who brought the manageress over. She very abruptly whipped the plate out from under my mums nose told us rudely that there was nothing wrong with the food. When my sister asked her if she could not be so abrupt, she accused us of wanting the food for free and told us that our children had been causing havoc, this was not true and we were extremely upset and embarrassed by her behaviour, we decided to leave straight away without even eating the food. We offered to pay for the drinks we had drunk but she refused and accused us of wanting the food for free. The woman was unbelievable and I would warn other customers never to go there, or if you do, don't dare to criticise the food

Went here just for a dinnertime snack - me and the wife had Giant Yorkshire puds & meat - I had lamb - she had beef - it was warm - nice meat stock gravy - and the meat (both the lamb and the beef was very tender and full of flavour indeed)- Also had a portion of chips - homemade - and very nice too ! - would recommend it !
