Our family stayed at The Devonshire Arms on Friday for my mothers 75th birthday celebrations. We had a wonderful day and night. By far the best part of our stay was the food at The Burlington Restaurant, which was top notch. They have 4 Rosettes and I would imagine a Michelin star is on its way. From the amuse bouche to the complimentary chocolates, everything was perfect. I was particularly impressed with my duck liver starter and 55 day aged beef for main. The presentation was excellent, however more importantly the food was extremely tasty and satisfied my hunger. Have eaten in any fine dining restaurants I have become a bit jaded with 'molecular gastronomy' and I much prefer this style of fine dining cuisine. The wine waiter did a great job too, recommending a replacement for our corked wine. All the waiting staff were professional and friendly. Well done to the chef.

It was our wedding anniversary and so we went for afternoon tea at the Devonshire Arms. It was a little more expensive then other venues at £20 per person but we had heard good things about the restaurant and the location is beautiful. The tea was good and the scone was very nice but we were disappointed with the sandwiches and some of the cakes. The sandwiches were cold and the bread was hard, as if they had just been taken out of the fridge (rather then being prepared fresh). One cake had far too much pastry (about an inch deep), and there was a little jelly and cream desert in a small glass where the liquid and solid had separated. When I told the waitress that I had a peanut allergy she told me how difficult I had been and that I should have told them in advance.
We would not recommend the afternoon tea and we would probably now think twice about returning for dinner.

This was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. 2 hours of sheer perfection.
From the moment you step into the lounge area you are looked after like royalty. The staff are so highly trained to the Burlington standards that it is a pleasure to be served by them. Their sheer professionalism in serving you is a delight to watch. Every course is described to you in detail personally at table. The miniature (not on the menu courses are amazing) e.g vichyssoise with smoked haddock, mustard ice cream and a quails egg, that was 1 of 3.
Superb wine list with Nigel's expert guidance. Yes, it is expensive but you have to experience this to believe it. The only problem is that the Burlington has set the bar so high that I feel I may not experience quality like this until I hopefully revisit next year. I am saving the pennies......sorry pounds.

What is the chef trying to achieve here. Whilst he is undoubtedly a skillful operator, the combinations of flavours and textures he applies to his dishes are well below par for a Michelin star chef. This guy is trying too hard and failing. Yes at first hit his flavours are OK, but when you get into your third or four mouthfuls, it starts to go all wrong. Too many things are going off to the point that you don’t get to taste the main ingredient. Your palette becomes confused. Mine said to me - what’s this baby food… come on lets go somewhere else. I had to agree with it.
The Burlington is not cheap so you expect better. £80.00 - 90.00 per head is easily achieved with wine. Don’t get me wrong, service, setting etc is good, and most will not be disappointed. It all depends on what experiences you have had in the past. In my opinion you can enjoy a better dining experience elsewhere in this part of the world.

As a fan of fine dining, I was very impressed with The Burlington. Everything was done to perfection yet with a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere. The lunch menu is excellent value for money and the food a delight to eat, with really clever dishes on the menu. I will definitely be paying another visit soon.

Fantastic food and a wine list that many London restaurants could only dream of. The main restaurant is charming, both relaxed and glamorous, with impeccable service. The breakfast experience is worth the price of the room! The brasserie is a much more casual dining experience and has a slightly chaotic atmosphere and is less comfortable with it's ultra modern decor, great if you are with a group of friends but the romance is in the main restaurant.

Well worth the trip and the price - certainly not cheap but you really get what you pay for and more. Excellent service from a team who really enjoy what they go. I'd recommend a staying over, the rooms are excellent and the breakfast is even great. We stayed just the one night but felt like we'd been away for a fortnight.
