The Castle Inn is under new management. About a year ago the current managers took over and are working hard to build up a reputation for good beer and food.
The Castle is a cosy place with friendly staff, a colourful and welcoming bunch of locals and an ever increasing number of visitors, like myself.
The restaurant offers a choice of foods to suit most pallets. Sitting in the rustic restaurant or eating at a table in the lounge one is impressed by the food turned out from the kitchen. Well cooked, wholesome and, unless you want a "pensioners" there are no small portions. Sunday lunchtimes is carvery time. Delicious roasts are there to be carved up and ladled onto your plate.
All in all, the Castle is a good, rustic friendly place to eat or drink spoilt only by the gambling machine in the lounge. It should be moved into the "tap room", or better still, thrown out altogether. The disturbance is however minimal and it should not detract from your enjoyment unless you, like me, cannot abide these machines.
