Really excellent service for our party of 16, fast and efficient. The food was very good too. Everyone was happy with their meals. Traditional old school Italian classics cooked very well indeed.

Me and my boyfriend go here all the time, we absolutely love it! We are forever ordering re antipasto and pate, the antipasto is a n of Italian meats which comes on a big plate with fresh bread an a bowl of olives, the pate Is freshly made and full of flavour! We always share our starters. But before the starters arrived we had a garlic bread half cheese half tomato, which was tasty. For main course I had Penne Arrabiata I always ask for extra chilli, and this dish is my favourite and I've had it in other restaurants but this is definitely the best one that I've had! My boyfriend had the Fettucini al Fredo which is a tomato based dish with a touch of cream with ham, I tried a bit even thought I'm not a fan of cream and i surprisingly liked it, it's one of his favourites too. We always save room for dessert for me it's the chocolate fudge cake served hot with vanilla ice-cream, and for Jamie the chocolate profiteroles with ice cream, the profiteroles are filled with cream and then coated in a sort of chocolate moose, words to describe are delicious and heaven. Overall the service was fantastic and we were never left with our mouths dry, the waiters and waitresses were so friendly, the owners daughter who is only 18 is full of confidence and easy to have a talk with! I love this place with it's great atmosphere, on a Saturday night you will have to wait but you know that if you have to wait that it's a good restaurant and worth the wait! Brilliant restaurant.

You cannot go wrong with Checcos. The food and atmosphere are great in a nice location in the Ribble Valley. For a starter try the meatballs in tomato and garlic sauce served with crusty bread to "dunk".

We visited last night for the first time after hearing so much about it. The restaurant was packed and we were lucky to get a table straight away. The atmosphere was very authentic and we liked the way that we could see right into the kitchen from where we were sitting and could see everybody hard at work. I opted for king prawns in garlic, tomato and ginger which were served with rice and salad and were lovely. My husband had mussels in a creamy garlic sauce (both starters were on the special menu) The mussels were cooked to perfection and have converted me! With the starters being so good we awaited our pizzas with eager anticipation, however we were sorely disappointed. I can only describe mine as a sloppy mess which was a nightmare to eat. My husband had chosen from the special menu (smoked salmon crayfish and spring onion) and again although the flavours were good the pizza was spoiled by the fact that the cheese and tomato were so gloopy and would not even stay on the fork. That said we will go back as we had seen some lovely food go out to the other tables - we just won't be having pizza!!

We have been regulars for some time, and the atmosphere is great. I even proposed to my wife there. You do have to wait a while when its busy, but a lot of Italians do this, and I think that it adds to the atmosphere, especially if you drink whilst waiting..! If you don't want to wait, I suggest you go mid week or on a hot, sunny Saturday night when people are having Barbeques. That way you can walk straight to a table if you want. The food is really excellent. Spaghetti Amatriciana at 8 quid is a favourite, as is the Pate starter, and the prices are generally cheap considering its good quality. However, if you fancy a blow out, there's loads of fuller meals to tempt you. I agree that the tables / decor is a bit dated, but I think that this also adds to the old tratoria charm. We went to Sorrento last year, and I never say a plush "next style" leather backed chair / poncy chrome all the time I was there...? All in all, its probably the nearest that you are likely to get to a traditional Italian restaurant in the Blackburn / Preston area. You may think this is a bold statement, but we have tried a lot of Italians around the Blackburn area, i.e. Francos in ossy and Langho, The Scicilian place near the walton arms (just off the M65), Amico Mios in Clitheroe, That place in Bamber Bridge? These are all very good restaurants, but Checcos really does have an edge. The staff are also almost all Italian, and if you fancy it, they even help you with the Lingo....? So that I give a balanced view, the slightly less positive sides are that they no longer do cheap Caraffes of Wine, for those budget nights, so you have to go for the real stuff, but this is only standard price, i.e. 12 quid upwards. There specials are also very static if you go a lot (as we do), but if its your first trip, then I suppose they'll still be special to you. I have heard that they are soon to revamp the waiting area soon, so hopefully, this will sort the decor for those who like a sparkle when they go out. Hopefully, it won't lose its charm though... Enjoy..!
Checcos
My visit to Checcos started off bad it was a Saturday night and extremely busy we had to wait in the bar for quite some time but once you get sat down at your table and the waiter/waitress comes to take your order that? when the fun starts the staff are very polite and friendly. As soon as he/she goes in the kitchen within seconds later a beautiful garlic bread comes out to wet your appetite, then if you order a starter it is ready in a reasonable amount of time, the amount of food is not to much not to little, just the right amount. shortly after you have eaten your asked for any drinks this is good because its nice to have a cold drink to wash your food down, the starters range from a simple salad to a full on fritto misto which is a selection of fish in a nice crispy batter. Now moving on to the main course which the most important meal of the evening if you have pizza it's a traditional Italian base with fresh toppings. Or if you choose to have pasta or a stake you?e not going to be disappointed the sauces are spectacular and the stakes are cooked exactly to your liking. The vegetables that come with the stakes are lovely and fresh you can have as much as you want. The only disappointment is the table cloths they are very old and tattered they have numerous cigarette burns in them. And really let the standard down. The prices are just over average I suppose just enough to pay for the Porsche parked out side the front door. Don? let my opinion put you off you have to try it for self.
Checcos
Checco's is situated on the main road between Whalley and Great Hawrood. It is a well established restaurant with many regular diners. As you walk in the bar area is a little small and at busy times can become a little crowded. However, this helps create Checco's atmosphere. This is a small family run restaurant where the conversation and wine are just as important as the food. The starters offer the usual fare - pate, prawn cocktail as well as few surprises like deep fried brie or carpaccio of beef. The starter portions are just enough to wet your appetite and prepare you for the main course. The choice of main meals is what you'd expect from a trattoria - pizza, pasta, fish, steak and chicken. The fillet steak tornado rossini is a treat - tender fillet steak with a rich pate and red wine sauce. You wont need a dessert after this one! The specials board also offers a good selection and is updated regularly. Checco's caters for all groups - couples, families and parties but don't expect to book a table unless your party is over 10 people. This is a 1st come 1st served restaurant. On busy night there can be quite a wait so arrive ealy to get a table. My only disappointment is that the menu is not updated often enough - it would be nice to see something new once in a while. Overall, Checco's offers good food and wine in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
