The Copper Kettle has been a fixture on Kirkby Lonsdale's Market Street since December 1978 and -- remarkably -- throughout this period has remained under the same ownership and day-to-day management. The history of the building actually stretches way back to the beginning of the seventeenth century when it started life as a business providing wine and candles to the church opposite. Today the Copper Kettle is a busy little restaurant and bed & breakfast full of olde worlde charm that's run by a dedicated husband-and-wife team who between them oversee the kitchen and front-of-house. He learned his trade on the ocean liners and is a member of the Association Culinaire Francaise and his menus offer traditional British fare interspersed with the odd Continental choice. Expect starters like Egg Mayonnaise and mains such as Roast Beef and Steak & Kidney pudding. The restaurant is open every day from 12 noon until 9pm and there are five ensuite bedrooms available on a bed & breakfast basis. Open throughout Xmas and New Year, restaurant and rooms.
