I'm afraid to say this was the poorest burger I've had since I was burning my own on a camp fire down the river aged 8.
Add this to surly waiting staff and you can only wonder how they've survived so long.

A truly awful meal! cheap and tired ingredients, cooked and served with indifference. how anyone can spoil a burger to this extent is beyond me.

I ate here as I came here as a child, unfortunately the service was poor, the burgers were no better than McDonald's, it was expensive given it's lack of flavour and most of all long island ice teas are supposed to be a long drink! Poor! Even overheard the staff moaning about tips! Appalling!

I visited Damn Yankee not too long ago. I went with my wife and kids. The kids were quite happy running around and the staff didn't seem to mind which was good. They have a kids menu which has a colouring in section.
The adults menu was quite large but my wife is a vegetarian and there wasn't much that she was able to have. She eventually settled for a bean burger, which was very oily and over fried...it didn't contain ANY beans but processed broccoli and carrot, which it did not say on the menu. The menu actually specified that it would be a bean burger, which it was not! Very disappointed!
When the waitress came over she didn't seem at all bothered that we weren't happy about the meal she actually laughed!
I was advised to have the large nachos for myself by one of the waitresses after I tried to order a small one. When I received the nachos they were huge! It could have actually fed my whole family. So I was a bit annoyed I was practically forced into ordering the (more expensive) large one. It would have been nice to have abit of honesty!
The restaurant was quite busy when we went and everybody seemed to be crammed in. It felt as though we were sharing a table with the entire restaurant.
Every mintue or so one of the many 'big boned' waitresses would push past knocking me. Nearly making me loose my drink.
I think that the idea of being able to see the kitchen is very good. Except it's slightly off-putting when the chefs appear to be dirty and sweaty.
As you may have already gathered I won't be returning to The Damn Yankee! I have been advised by my friends to try the one in Guisley near Leeds.
Damn Yankee
I found the range of food on the menu very good. The drinks menu ranged from teas to pitchers of lager, glasses of wines and cocktails. I had a burger, which was excellent quality, with plenty of chips and good quality coleslaw. The restaurant is now totally non-smoking, which is excellent. The only negative comment I will make is that I found the loudness of the music overpowering for the size of the restaurant.
Damn Yankee, The
Surely Harrogate's longest standing Tex/Mex style restaurant, and I think still the best. Despite changing hands several times over the years, it has always retained the relaxed and informal atmosphere backed up by the now classic menu that I first experienced back in the 1970's. Smoking is barred during the early evening, so it is a good place to take children - although I personally don't feel their trade would be adversely affected if they implemented a total smoking ban. Food is very good, and you get plenty of it. The Ultimate Nachos is a must (even I struggle to finish the large one!), and the range of burgers and steaks easily matches the excellent Mexican food. I would also recommend you sample the wide range of cocktails they offer.
