Excellent meal. Gorgeous stylish pub in a beautiful location. Had a great night away in the this upmarket dining pub.

We had an amazing lunch at the Drunken Duck yesterday. We had planned to go for a walk but thought better of it! They have just put in a brand new state of the art kitchen and it certainly showed! Fantastic food and venue.

It’s a number of years since I stayed here and on spec I booked a room for the wife and I between Xmas and New Year. If you’ve never been it’s essentially a privately owned pub and microbrewery in the middle of nowhere in the heights overlooking Lake Windermere between Ambleside and Hawkshead. The food was even better than I remember with my wife going so far as to declare the smoked haddock and Lancashire cheese soufflé as the best starter she had ever had. Good wine list too and of course decent beer as it’s brewed on-site.

Really enjoyed our food here it was fab! What a relaxing place with great service not over fussy but very attentive, wish there was more places like this!

What am amazing place! This was the second place we stayed having been recommended by Sugarvine. A deserved winner of many awards! I would also drop Sugarvine an email if you are looking for some insider knowledge on where to eat or stay in the Lakes.

After reading numerous positive reviews on the Drunken Duck, felt I had to comment on how disappointed my husband and I were when we dined in the restaurant recently.
The bar was lovely with a nice relaxed atmosphere, can't complain about the beer either. However we were shown to our table in the 'new' annexe of the restaurant and was greeted first of all by a rather unpleasant smell. I admit I have a rather sensitive nose, but the smell continued for the duration of our meal. Not a good start.
Our food was average but extremely over priced. Seasoning was generally clumsy and the additional vegetables we ordered (herby potatoes) were boring.
Maybe they were having an 'off' night ? certainly shan't return for a second opinion.

I first visited it 11 years ago and was eager to introduce my new husband to the 'Duck' - it didn't disappoint. If you're just visiting for a pub lunch why not try the 'Ploughman's Lunch,' it'll be a pleasant surprise.

The only problem with this place is that's is almost impossible to get accommodation in the summer. However this is a testiment to it's quality. A first class Gastropub!

We stayed the night here at this wonderfully isolated pub and i have to say they have got things just right. The danger in the Lakes is that things get a little too twee and chintzy but here the decor and design is contemporary without being at all out of place. The public bar is a delight, albeit a little small, the bedrooms are comfortable and luxurious and the food fully deserves its AA rosette. I even liked the 'designer' brown bathwater!
