Deal is food and drink for £5.00 home made curry by Maria is fantastic better than the local Indian! and she always has at a bowl at some point during the week on the bar for the locals to try. They also do steak night which again is a deal wine and steak. I moved to stainland in 2011 as my husband Alan had lived here for many years, I wanted a local country pub and the Duke of York offers a homely feel to a pub, where everybody makes you welcome and even as new comers we felt like we had been friends with people for years. As we are now regulars to the Duke of York and we consider James and Maria as our friends. They offer excellent service and always have a smile so we decided to have our wedding reception at the pub on 17.9.11. We invited 50-60 people and all our guests were made to feel welcome. The buffet was excellent as always, maria's cooking is fab. Maria and James had a smile for everybody all day, our guests stayed till late into the evening and now my family feel part of the local pub life. We had a fantastic day and would highly recommend the Duke for any functions or if your passing just call in for a meal or a drink. We've been several now to the pub for food and every time it's been excellent. The roast dinner is great value for money - the beef was so tender and you get a great sized portion as well (and we eat a lot!) I had the pie and there was loads of tender beef in a yummy gravy. It's also a lovely traditional little pub with friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

The food is outstanding here. A good old fashioned English country pub, serving home cooked food at great prices. Atmosphere is fantastic and the staff are great. They are so welcoming and friendly. We are a regular and take all our family and friends there for a meal when they come to stay with us. The Sunday roast dinners are the best and the Yorkie puds are just to die for!

The Duke's food is second to none. Service is impeccable and the atmosphere is welcoming & comfortable. Well worth a visit from out of the area for the food alone and worth a visit to have a beer and some banter with James, Maria, Dan, Hazel and the friendly locals. Top draw in every sense of the word. One visit wasn't enough, I've been several times and I'll be back. (like Arnie). Recommended: chilli melt, steaks from local butchers and especially the Xmas menu. Also, don't miss out on Maria's jacket chips. Enjoy.

Great pub with fabulous friendly staff. In terms of food the Duke of York punches above it's weight. Sunday lunch is great value as is stake night on Wednesday but for a real treat try Thursday night and Maria's special curry....it's outstanding. Try it and you won't be disappointed

A fantastic pub and really friendly hosts! Definitely one of the best pubs I've been to and the food is fantastic. Definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the Halifax/Huddersfield area!

An excellent place to enjoy home cooked pub food, the staff are extremely friendly and you could not enjoy a better country pub atmosphere. My husband and I highly recommend a visit no matter if you live local or not.
