What an abysmal and nightmarish 3 days.
I was in the unrenovated annex building, top floor.
Christ, what a technicolour pile of sick the room was, hadn't been decorated in at least 25 years. The toilet hadn't been cleaned, the bed squeaked every time you moved, the cabinets where chipped MFI 70's jobs with bits missing, the pillows flat as they come, the carpet worn and dirty, the wallpaper some faded Laura Ashley stuff marked and damp / peeling under the window.
The room was top floor and upon arrival I had to wait for the guy working there to offer a hand with my bags. Eventually we slogged up the 3 flights in the dark and depressing 'Rising Damp' like annex.
Oh and the 'resturant' - oh my, what a thing to behold!
3 days running the music, a singular Tamala Motown CD was too loud (3 other people as well as myself repeatdly ask for it to be turned down) and intrusive. On the second night one of the staff apologised and said the owner thought it was a 'banging' CD to play. Maybe so, but he ain't got to listen to it repeatdly while trying to have his dinner.
The food, is over cook and over priced. The cutlery and china again old and worn. The tables.....what happened to using table cloths????? The vniyl 'table cloths' a la transport cafe are not removed, they simply spray them (the tops that is) with anti bac. The sides go (from the stains) go unwashed.
The bar area (there is no reception, your at the mercy of getting help from the bar) is again circa 1968 - 75, drab and unwelcoming.
The staff are there to represent the Hotel, they need new new uniforms ones that fit and arn't stained, give them a bit of pride.
For the most part, the younger members of staff are a bit clueless or there as it's a job, the older staff are polite and helpful and the ones in the middle smile as they treat you an annoyance.
It's a real shame, the views across the Menai are stunning. This grand old place needs a new owner, one to give it some love, sort the rest of the rooms, the bar and resturant out.
Bottom line - booked for 6 nights, left on day 3 - couldn't face staying.
