Gave into a visit to Fielden Arms after great disappointment several years ago knowing it has changed hands several times since but a bad reputation sticks. I have to say a huge congratulations to the new team as I was not disappointed! We had a fantastic meal. Only the dessert let it down from being an exceptional meal. 4 of us dined Wednesday night so one of us enjoyed the curry night whilst the other 3 enjoyed 3 courses for £9.95 early bird menu. The food was fantastic, the service was delightful and the value out of this world. Well done on turning around a building with a bad reputation and making a fantastic eatery out of it - I hope you get the business and recognition you deserve - we will be back!

Visited here last night (Tues) about 6pm. Not many people in. Server was quite attentive but needed 2 reminders to clean table mess from previous occupants. We were put off by the soup, as he told us it was lettuce and onion, same as last night! I ordered duck pate with chutney and chabatta, quite edible, friend 1 ordered squid with chilli dip but unfortunately the dip came with a fly, so she didn't want it replacing and ordered desert instead. For mains I had lamb shank which was tender and tasty and I couldnt finish. Friend 1 had hotpot which she said was ok but not keen on the layer of cabbage under the sliced potatoes. Friend 2 had the steak pudding with mash, of which she left half as she was ordering sticky toffee pud for afters. The mains came with a huge dish for sharing of chips, cheesy new spuds, brocolli, carrots and french beans. She said her meal was OK. Friend 1 had strawberries and ice cream which was just OK. In all I enjoyed my meal and the portions were very generous and as a plus, it was 20% off on Mon and Tues night, so we got 2 courses for £7.95 which I thought was very good.

We unfortunately went here on Valentines Night, a friend had arranged it for a few of us to go. we had pre booked our table for 8pm weeks before but only got to our table at 9.15. When the food arrived we were extremely disappointed. Starters were tiny and not very good quality. The sirloin steak main was dry, obviously a poor piece of meat with little flavour. The highly advertised 'proper chips' were blatantly bought in from their veg supplier, pale yellow, tasted mainly of oil from the deep fat fryer. The puddings were the final straw...chocolate cake with custard... was served on what i can only describe as a saucer sized plate, 3 small bite size pieces of flat cake in the shape of a heart, accompanied by ...and i am not joking...a 50p piece sized dollop of runny custard. at this point i sent it back only for the extremely rude waitress to return with it on a larger plate and a slightly larger circle of custard. No apology, explanation, nothing...just n angry look was flashed my way as she dropped it on the table! All this for £29.95 a person...absolutely disgraceful. We ate 3 weeks earlier at Angels in Ribchester for £5 a head more, got 4 courses as well as canapes and petit fours and had a faultless evening. In the RibbleValley, where we are spoilt for choice and is a place abundant with excellent pub/restaurants serving exceptional local produce I cannot believe that this place could charge this for such rubbish. We will not be returning and I am making a point of telling everyone i know NEVER to eat here. I hope Sugarvine passes my comments onto the restaurant as I know you only print 'good' reviews!
