I can only comment on the meal we had in the pub as we were not guests in the hotel. We tried to book a meal at the sister pub The Red Lion but as it was full they suggested the newly opened Globe. To our surprise on a Friday night at 8.40 pm the place was virtually empty (I'm always a bit suspicious of empty restaurants) but we had only just arrived from a long journey and had a hungry 8 year old. Menu very limited - no specials. Food took 25 mins to arrive which was ok but my sons chips were over cooked. If an 8 year old doesn't eat chips something is wrong. My husband had the 'New York Roast" basically a rump steak and mash. Steak was fine. Mine came 5 mins later but my lamb skewers were not charred, they were burnt to the extent they were inedible. We sent them back. 20 mins later ( by now my family had finished their food and I was starving) my skewers appeared. Looked ok on first inspection so I said the were fine but once the meat was prized off the skewer the pieces were still burnt on one side. Too tired to complain again I ate the good bits and left the worst. My husband politely asked for a reduction in the bill which was refused. Oh well - won't go again and somewhat put off the Red Lion too. They won't pick up trade like that. Good job Gordon Ramsay wasn't checking out the kitchen. No excuse for burnt food - ever.
