The food was deplorable the lamb chops were smelly, the beer was flat. I assume the waiters were illigal as no left to serve us as immigration officers walked in and the staff disappeared. I had an awful experience. Just a posh version of a curry mile restaurant.

We visited this restaurant last saturday evening - it was packed at 8.30, so this evening we arrived at 7pm and were seated immediately. On both occasions we thoroughly enjoyed our meals and will be back very soon. Service was first class and very friendly.no wonder it's busy!

I recently went here with my boyfriend for a nice meal, we were put in a corner at the back which originally seemed quite and nice. After 10 minutes nobody had come to offer us a drink and when they finally did the waiter was rude and pushy.
When it comes to curry I ALWAYS ask for a medium hot madras and at any other restaurant in Manchester this has always been no problem, the waiter proceeded to tell me "so you want a medium curry" after stating that wasn't what I wanted and that i'd look but could we just have the starters for now he proceeded to tell me how hot a Madras was and then read the whole menu out to me as if talking to an incompetent child. After 10 minutes he came back again asking had i decided on my mains yet to which i replied "the starters are fine for now" and he walked away shaking his head. The starters then took a further 20 minutes to arrive (and the restaurant wasn't busy) while another 2 waiters came over to see if we'd like mains.
After the wait and rudeness of the first waiter I'd been completely put off for the simple fact that I will not be forced into eating when I am paying for a decent service.
Eventually after having 2 starters (which to be fair were quite nice) and a pint and a half of carling the bill came £14.90 which i find ridiculous as the starters weren't extravagant ones.
If you work in a restaurant at 60/ 70 it doesn't mean you can try to intimidate people to eat certain things or be plain rude.
All in all a terrible experience of The "Great" Kathmandu.

We eaten at this place last friday evening,15/10/10,3 off us.
Got two starters to share, very nice lamb shashlik, and a fish starter.
Very poor service,my son asked for a drink that never arrived,we asked again and got it,my wife asked for a jug of water, never got it,the worse was when the waiter dropped a meal of lamb handi on the table, they did not change the dish and just put a napkin over the mess on the table. We was never offered another meal, they just took the dish away then brought it back!
What lamb handi was left in the dish was very nice but the service was very poor.also they had no slimline tonic to go with my wifes gin, overall i would say the food is okay, but the service was very poor and i will not be returning in a hurry.they did not even offer a discount.

Went with my wife last Friday on the strength of recommendations here and was very disappointed. They were very busy (7.30pm) and the staff were on a mission to get us fed and out the door asap from the word go. The menus had food from previous diners in between pages (yuk!) and once we had prised them open it was pretty standard fare. The poppadoms were actually very good and not the standard ones that are generally brought in. Starters (bhaji and samosas) were OK but both our mains were were the wrong side of average. I had chicken chat phat off the specialities section and my wife had lamb jalfrezi both were frankly horrible and we both left 50% + and we weren't questioned by the waiter as to why. the place couldn't handle the volume of people dining that night which may explain the poor quality but I won't ever return

I have been to many restaurants and this rates very highly. For starters you have got to try Rani Chicken ( my family used to share various starters but as everyone used to go for this we all order it now) along with a helping of mahmocha (little dumplings with a spicy sauce). All the main meals are good! Nan bread is also fantastic,

We had a meal here tonight, they have extended their restaurant. We found the food very tasty and fresh, although did not like the customer service including wait for service.

Eight members of Trafford Curry Club visited this restaurant at 8pm on Wednesday 27th January 2009. The place is quite small with not a great deal of covers but it was very busy and had a nice cosy welcoming atmosphere. The dated wallpaper also adds to the experience. For starters we had poppadums followed by Fish Tikka, Lamb Chops and Sheekh Kebabs. All delicious ( especially the Fish Tikka ). For mains we chose a variety of the Nepalese dishes including the Chilli Chicken ( very hot ), Bhotowan, Chandane dry fry and Chicken Khorsani ( also very hot ) and traditional Indian dishes of Tikka Massala and Kharai. With copious amounts of draught Cobra and Kingfisher, a jug of delicious Mango Lassi and coffees to round off the evening the bill came to £170. We were very impressed with the waiter service. All the orders were correct and on time even though the place was busy. In fact as we were leaving at 11.30pm diners were still coming in. All in all we would definitely eat here again and would not hesitate recommending it to others. Peter Crouch ( the footballer ) visits here and his photo is on the wall. He has good taste! Our advice would be to leave this little jem just as it is. If it ain't broken don't try to fix it.

I've been to the Great Kathmandu a few times before and it's always been ok - better than Rusholme but not amazing. However I went tonight and was really disappointed. The service was appalling - we didn't even get an apology when the waiter spilled wax all over our clothes. Also the food was a real let down - it appeared within about two minutes of ordering and wasn't very nice at all. I don't know if there's been a change in management/kitchen staff etc but I won't be going back again...

Booked a table, this was a Saturday in Dec. When we got there was seated and then the waiter disappeared for an hour. There seemed to be only 2 waiters on in the whole restaurant and the kitchens seemed busy with the take aways instead.
I think the restaurant is over rated and we ended up walking out and went to rusholme. Got instant service with free starters, free coffee and excellent service.
I would definitely not go back to the Great Kathmandu.
