About Grumpys Diner

Grumpys Diner in Southend is a fully licensed 1950s-style American diner open Tuesday to Sunday. It’s the real deal with comfortable booth seating, memorabilia, life-size statues, a jukebox and fifties music. The extensive menu covers all the bases ranging from breakfast, sandwiches and light bites to burgers, hot dogs, grills, chicken and fish dishes and over 20 flavours of Pur Thick American milkshakes. Meat lovers, vegans, vegetarians and gluten-free are all catered for and there are specials every week. You can even try their Big Daddy or Waffle Challenge is you’re feeling brave – and hungry! Once a month there are live music events ranging from Elvis to rock and roll and in school holidays kids’ events such as magicians and meet and freets with princesses and superheroes.

My family and I come to Grumpys every few months or so. The food is always outstanding; large portions, gorgeous burgers and plenty of extras to add on. The atmosphere and interior are great, the staff are lovely…it’s honestly one of the best places locally. To top it off, the prices are ridiculously cheap, £90 for two adult meals with sides, desserts and drinks…and FIve Kids meals. Fantastic value for money.

Came here on our first visit to Southend, we like to visit American diners and this didn't disappoint. The girls serving were very attentive and didn't stop cleaning everything in the place the whole time we were there. Meal was delicious, my only gripe was that my lamb burger was served quite pink in places - but that is down to my personal preference of 'done - ness' of my food. We did check with the chef who reassured us it was fine. I like the fact that you can build the burgers how you want , instead of ordering and having to ask for things to be taken off if you don't like them. Would definitely visit again if we are ever down that way.

It was our first time here at grumpys. We don’t live in the area so when we visit Southend we always find somewhere to eat before we head home We enjoyed it very much, it was different from othe usual places we go. The staff were lovely and served us quickly. The burgers were great will definitely go back next time we visit Southend.
