There’s a distinct French feel to this modern and spacious brasserie in the heart of Liverpool. Chef-patron Martin Renshaw has put his own stamp on the menu with some unashamedly Gallic-influenced dishes: Try Grilled scallops with pea puree and Bayonne ham or Merguez sausage and bean cassoulet as a starter along with mains such as Duck a l’orange with fondant potatoes and green beans or Rump of lamb served pink with sweet potato, ratatouille and jus. You’ll also find classic char-grilled steaks, Rock oysters and a decadent shellfish platter for two plus small sharing plates like Whitebait with aioli and Tapenade with crisp bread. Hanover Street is open every day for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner and as well as the main a la carte there’s a good-value two-and three-course set menu at lunchtimes. An impressive 50-bin wine list too, French-focused but with other Old and New World options and a decent by-the-glass selection. Hanover Street Social is listed in the Good Food Guide and the Michelin guide. Salt House Tapas and Salt House Bacaro are sister venues.
