You've heard of cooks taking revenge on customers who complain? It happened to me here after I returned an overcooked steak. What came back was a steak which was raw in the centre and garnished with a curly black hair. Disgusting.

After reading reviews, we decided to booked Harrys Restaurant for 4, two weeks before. First impression always counts, on arrival my husband approached the gentleman on the bar and assumes we did not booked but realised quickly we did, we were seated on another room, my party thinks this is an overflow room (restaurant still quiet as our table is booked for 7 p.m.) floor dirty with chips and pieces of tissues scatter around. We were reading the board on the wall with menus and drinks and we notice cage on the ceiling with cobwebs and dust. Our orders taken, food warm not hot, the waitress very helpful. Very disappointed with our experience and we will not come back again and will not recommend with friends. City council pls visit and inspect for cleanliness.
Grumpy Old Parent Of A Student
My comment falls in to 3 distinct categories:
1) Four of us ate here on 26th October 2009. Two parents & 2 students. The food was good. A fair price. Clear descriptions on the menu. It all represented what I had seen on their website, and what appealed to us.
2) Less positive; within 5 minutes of being seated we had been asked twice if we were ready to order. Even allowing for my poor reading skills, I felt this was a bit quick.
3) The music was so loud we could not sustain a conversation. To this I add that we were also 'pushed' about ordering our next course(s). For the first time ever the bill arrived before I had time to ask for it. My main impression; come in eat, pay & leave so that we can re 'sell' your table.
Will we go back: I leave you to decide?

I visited Harry's a couple of months ago with a bunch of girlfriends and was disappointed with the food. I had over-priced chicken burger and fries, which was very plain and the portion was small. Tables were far too squashed together and staff rushed so service slow. It was a very busy Friday evening but I thought the atmosphere was more fast food place and lacked soul and atmosphere. Vicki

Just rang the famous Harry's to book a table and was basically told to sod off. I was informed that he was unable to take my booking because he was busy and he only answered the phone so it would stop ringing! As someone who has worked in the catering industry as well other service industry I am appalled that people can find this acceptable! A very bad first impression

Discovered Harry's here on Sugarvine, and was impressed by the positive reviews, so decided to try it with a couple of friends. Was back within the next week with my partner who was also extremely delighted by the quality of the food, being a chef himself. The ambience and overall experience offered at Harry's is probably the best you will find in Exeter. Our favourite restaurant so far!!

Probably the best meal out, in terms of atmosphere and overall enjoyment, that i've ever had outside of London.

Lively atmosphere with a mixture of young and old, smart and casual. Service was excellent, i wasn't sure whether i would like the Mexican liquor coffee so the waitress offered to change it if i didn't like it. Food was very good and reasonably priced and the liquor coffee was lovely. Would definitely go again.
Harrys Restaurant
i went to Harry's based on the recommendations i read here. The food was good, but not quite as outstanding as was mentioned by a previous reviewer. Service was a tad slow, but i do recommend this to people who havent been before.
Harrys Restaurant
It is always a pleasure to eat in Harrys. It is by far my favourite in East Devon. I travel 17 miles twice a month to eat there and it is worth every mile. The staff are fantastic, the food and wine as good, ambience and surroundings always fun, and most of all, excellent value for money.
