As a regular visitor to the high cross I was very disappointed with my visit this morning 02/05/16. After a wait of 50 minutes for our breakfast to be served to us we found it to be a let down . Black pudding was a small dried up piece that you could not cut , eggs were hard . We had coffee which was nearly cold and had to ask for fresh to be brought out along with plates to put our toast on . I appreciate it was a little busy but surely as it is a Bank Holiday Monday you should have been prepared for this . I will probably think twice about returning again .

We have visited the High Cross pub 4 times in a month which says it all! Excellent food, fresh and well cooked. The service was quick and efficient. Recommended.
Disappointed

Another kindergarten. Caters for kids whos parents do not care how much noise or annoyance it causes to the rest of the public . But its a public house ? so grown ups do not matter. Will not go again . Is there a public house where grown ups can go and have a quiet drink without children been in the near vicinity?

The food is normally very nice in The Highcross but I was disappointed with the service there last night (Oct 19 2011).
I visited with my family and arrived at 8.30pm, we ordered two of the Plantation Platters and a Triple Chicken and then went to the salad bar.
About ten minutes later, the waitress came over and told us there was no spit roast chicken left.
This was disappointing enough as this is the main draw of the restaurant. To make matters worse she told us they could not replace the chicken with anything else as stocks were low.
I asked if she was seriously telling us that we could have the meal, but with a key ingredient missing, for exactly the same price and was told yes!
The waitress was apologetic enough but I can't believe the kitchen seem to keep no idea of their stock.
We were offered no extra drinks of desserts and so we just left. I won't be returning in a hurry.

highcross (harvester) is discusting, the manager allows his dogs to walk through the kichen from time to time, he treats his staff like shit aswell as his customers, it is appalling the way it is managed, the only good thing is that the staff try their best to make each customer happy and the manager will go over and put them down, there for the standards of service and food quality drop.
i will be putting a report in the local paper especially after the way that i was treated by the manager.

We had tried the high cross early last year and found both food and staff terrible however we thought we would try again and what a change the staff are helpful and I can honestly say we have not had a bad meal yet and we have been that often we must have tried most of the menu. well done!
