Hipping Hall near Kirkby Lonsdale is one of the northwest's select group of fine dining 'restaurants with rooms'. The building has been sensitively restored, matching contemporary style with classic features, and while most of the structure dates back to the 17th century, the restaurant itself, which has a wonderful walk-in fireplace, is Tudor. The three-AA-rosette restaurant is open for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays and dinner every evening when Head Chef Oli Martin and his team offer a choice of menus - a three-course Table D'Hote along with six- and nine-course tasting menus. A lot of thought has gone into the wine list too and each course of every menu has suggestions for matching wines by the glass. Hipping Hall has nine bedrooms and a suite, all individually furnished to a high standard and with its location between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales is a great base from which to explore this beautiful part of the country. And a new addition in 2016 is the Old Stables, a new development which incorporates five luxury bedrooms, a chef's kitchen and a private entertainment space.
