From the outside this place looks very modest (and also appears to be called "Honk Kong Hong Kong"). But do not be fooled, this little treasure is possibly one of (if not THE) best Dim Sum restaurants in Edinburgh. In all the times I have visited this restaurant (which is a lot now!) I have always seen tables filled with Asian customers, to me this speaks volumes about their quality. The staff are always very welcoming, friendly and prompt whilst the restaurant feels pleasant and clean. Do not waste your time looking at the a la carte menu its very average. If you want a la carte the Kweilin is only a few doors down. Speak up! You must tell them you want the Dim Sum Menu! This place is about Dim Sum, the selection is fabulous and ranges from the very safe Sui Mai and Ha Kow all the way through to the very adventurous Chickens Feet. There really is something for everyone. Some personal favourites include the Japanese Sui Mai (3 Large Sui Mai eacg with a different garnish on top; mushroom, scallop, prawn), the Prawn filled Bean Curd Rolls (this really is delicious don? be fooled buy the name) and the Glutinous Rice Parcel (Sticky rice wrapped in a big leaf and filled with tasty bits). And yet soo many more too! When ordering average out about 2.5 to 3 dishes a head. i.e. If you have a big group of hungry blokes get 3 per head. If you are all petite light eaters order 5 dishes between two. At an average price of about £3 a dish the price here is really good. My wife and I can eat very comfortably including drinks for <£25. There really is absolutely nothing bad that can be said about this restaurant if you like Dim Sum. There are very few real Dim Sum places in Edinburgh so its good that what we do have so exceptionally great. Vegetarians, I'm afraid, are a little stuck for choice. The majority of the dishes do contain meat / fish. We tried the a'la carte once and whilst edible did not give us nearly the same enjoyment as all the other times we have indulged in the Dim Sum. To summarise: This restaurant is one of the few gems that occasionally pops up that offers unique and exceptional quality food and service at very modest prices. To not try this place at least once would be like cutting off your right hand. I consider myself a bit of a gourmet of Chinese food having taken great delight in it for many years in various parts of the world. My standards are very high and to impress me like this is really a challenge. This is one of the most refreshing new(ish) Chinese restaurants in Edinburgh. Dim Sum - 6/5 Stars!
