I have been to Ichiban many times and only thing I can do is to recommend. The food quality and quantity is great. The service is friendly and ladies are always happy to help. I have taken many of my friends there and all of them were happy for choice.

Easily the best and most traditional of sushi restaurants in Cardiff. Food is always incredibly fresh and flavorsome as well as great service and prices.

Went as family to Ichiban in Albany Road Cardiff for lunch this Sunday June 7, 2009, following the recommendation of a friend. As newcomers to Japanese cuisine we tried mixed sashimi and beef/pork in ginger sauce, as well as green tea and Japanese beer on draught. The sashimi was kindly prepared without salmon fish on request. Both dishes and the drinks were delicious, the restaurant tidy, the service attentive and very proper. We recommend Ichiban and will be happy to come back in the future to try more of their many excellent food choices.

In the past I was a customer of Zushi, another Japanese Sushi and Noodle bar but when I finally tried the food at Ichiban and was instantly hooked.
As a fan of Raman, I found the noodles and broth far delicious than than of Zushi and also; the Zushi one has a tendency to upset my stomach afterward - there is no such issue with the Ramen from Ichiban.
The service is wonderful, though the Waitress' are more talkative with the oriental people who come to eat here (a sign of a good place to eat is when people from that eating culture chose to consume it), even so you will not feel neglected but they will give you space to enjoy time out with your friends.
I never really sample the Sushi but the cooked foods and extras are delicious and there is such a variety that is sure to entertain most; try the Chicken or Salmon in the sweet Teriyaki sauce, enjoy the Japanese classic of tempura batter and try something different by trying the tentacles.
A good way to start a night is by ordering the boiled green beans and going from there, picking on a few extras to sample various flavours and then finishing off with a main meal dish such as the Ramen noodles, Yaki-Soba noodles or Chahan rice.
Don't forget to order some Japanese beer too. Or Sake (warm of course).

We get to the Ichiban most Saturdays with the kids, food is brilliant, cost low, particularly if you go before 2pm 20% discount. Staff are wonderful with the kids Feel loath to recommend as it might become too popular
