Il Vesuvio in Llantwit Major is a real find. Went 'on spec' with four friends on Saturday evening, despite being busy, they found space for us. To be honest we weren't expecting much, just happy to be out together for a bite and a glass of wine.
What a surprise! Traditional Italian food, great ingredients beautifully cooked, good service. Everyone very impressed. One Italian food lover who's fairly hard to please announced that her spaghetti carbonara was the best she's had. Ever.
Our Gamba prawns were fat and succulent and the sauce was finger licking good. Perfectly cooked pasta, sauces just right. The veal was tender and tasty, the chicken sublime, and vegetables nicely 'al dente'.
Niggles? well at a push - the glass of house white, not great. Ice cream was probably not italian. But the icy beers and bottle of recommended red were delicious.
Fairly priced, well served good food, only a hop & skip from the train station.
