We had an ok meal here on 3 March 2013.The restaurant is nice and traditional with a comfortable if slightly old fashioned interior. When we arrived they were hoovering the carpet which was a bit annoying as there were a number of customers seated. The food was nice. We had poppadoms, chicken rani and a fish tikka starter followed by a chicken curry dishes with rice and nan bread. The chicken and fish were lovely as were the accompaniaments. All the portions were a bit small except the bolied rice.We were not impressed with the service which was slow and we did not not find the staff friendly. Some of the food was literally thrown down in front of us. When we asked for sweets they said they did not have any on a Sunday other than kulfi which they said was not like ice cream? I ordered a coffee which I sent back as it was overly microwaved. The replacement was similarly microwaved and was smoking like something out of a Harry Potter film. We would not go back, the food was nice but there are other nicer restaurants in the area with good service and a better choice.

we always visit the Jai Kathmandu when we fly out of Manchester every year. we have always found the staff very friendly and helpful, the atmosphere cosy and inviting. The food is absolutely MAGIC!!! and is one of the highlights of our year. With living in the north of Scotland we are not able to visit as much as we would like to. I thoroughly recommend the Jai Kathmandu, where every customer is special.

I tried Jai Kathmandu for the first time last week after reading the many recommendations. It was a very cold night, snow everywhere but as soon as we walked inside it was lovely and warm. They had made a big effort to keep the large dining area heated which was appreciated. We were welcomed by very friendly staff. the food was amazing, unlike any other Indian restaurant I have been to. We had some poppadums, tandoori lamb chops to start, I had Karahi Lamb which was amazing, the rice and the naan bread lovely too. I would recommend Jai Kathmandu to everyone and will definitely be going back!

Absolutely brilliant!!! As an Indian I'm really fussy about "Indian" restaurants, but this place is one of my all time favourites. Food is authentic Nepalese, great tasting and great value.
The staff are really friendly, service quick and always with a smile.
I travel 30 miles to get here because I think it's worth it.

I have been going to Jai Kathmandu for the best part of 9 years, I have taken all my mates there, and have had a number of family functions there. The food is brilliant, i am vegetarian and the choice provided for vegetarians is brilliant, the Paneer Shaslik , Aloo Tikka pieces, mutter Paneer and dips are all fantastic, the sauces compliment the food very well, especially the mint sauce. If you are thinking of taking friends or family to this restaurant, dont think twice, Fantastic, service, family run, and excellent quality of food.

I go to the Jai Kathmandu quite often for my Nepalese food or indian food. Currys, Pillau, Masala or whatever you fancy and a small variety of Desserts. Sometimes to eat in and some times for a take away. In either case the food is great.
I last had a Lamb biryani take away which comes with a vegetable course. Large and plentiful pieces of lamb. Fresh spices for flavour, not to burn your mouth out. No rubbishy "additives" or flavourings. Just great food cooked really well.
I am diabetic and cannot tolerate large amounts of sugars. I find the menu with its large variety of options and tastes just down my street whilst not harmful to me. There is a little sugar in some of the dishes but not a lot and of course you can always check if you have any alergies, ie nuts. The service is attentive without being intrusive. The house wine quite reasonable.
I am sold on the place, reasonably priced and one restaurant out of "Town" I recommend for that bit of superior class in Nepalese or Indian cuisine. Enjoy people.

If you're thinking of going out for a curry then you're probably thinking curry mile or perhaps town if you've got a few bob to part with - well forget it. Forget the questionable hygiene standards in the McDonalds style get em' in and get em' out restaurants in the curry mile and forget getting bad service from cynical waiters who hate their customers in town. The Jai Kathmandu is all you need in a curry house. The food never disappoints and is consistently tasty and obviously cooked in-house with care and attention - even the 'dips'? for the poppadoms are different every time we visit and so obviously not lumped out of a bucket like you might expect on 'the mile'. The naan breads are gorgeous, the curried mackerel fantastic and zhalfrezis exquisite (try the lamb chops also - yum yum). Enjoy the friendly atmosphere, don't expect to be rushed with your meal, have a couple of nice cool beers and leave satisfied.
