La Pergola is an award-winning family run Italian restaurant based at The Wheatsheaf, a fifteenth century coaching set in the beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside at Harlton. Proprietor Giulio De Simone hails from a small village near Sorrento and he and wife Maria opened the doors to La Pergola in 2007. Today the restaurant and adjoining pub are managed by daughter Rosa and her husband Tony. The emphasis is on quality ingredients sourced from Italy and locally and many menu items are home-made, including the bread, pork and fennel sausages, the antipasti pickles, and the sauces used in the Pasta dishes. Many of the vegetables, herbs and salad produce used in the kitchen are grown on the adjoining allotment. La Pergola has a wood-burning clay pizza oven which give their pizzas a distinct flavour and the pizza dough is made fresh every morning. The restaurant is open for lunch Tuesday to Sunday and dinner Tuesday to Saturday.
