I go to many different restaurants in the north east and have found a gem.Freshly prepared varied menu accompanies great staff and and lovely atmosphere. The desserts which can often be a let down in Italian restaurants are delicious and change regularly. The portions are generous and great value for money. Will definitely be a regular from now on.

I have been coming back to this restaurant for years and i have never received a bad meal. The food is great as very reasonably priced, with a great wine selection (the house wine is very tasty). Staff at La Toscanina are fantastic and always have a warm welcoming smile on their face. I would recommend this restaurant to any body. PERFECT!

I would guess that nobody involved with this operation has ever been to Italy or even another Italian restaurant, Nice people though.
I had a huge chicken escalop topped with a tin of tomatoes and cheap mozzarella accompanied by a mountain of weird sauteed poatoes and, wait for it. TINNED PEAS!
my wife's rissotto had obviously been microwaved as the rice was like a pile of little chalk pellets.
At least the other clientele were entertaining. I Thought it was a cross dressing convention but upon going into the street i realized that it was just Saturday night in the bedlam that is Sunderland. Avoid.

Fantastic choice of freshly prepared Italian food. Friendly, polite staff who always go the extra mile and a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. Definitely the best Italian restaurant in the north east.
Hungry!
Fantastic, best Italian restaurant in Sunderland, quite small but the food, atmosphere and friendly staff make up for it. It will always be a firm favourite with us. Superb!

La Toscanina is good because their Happy Hour lasts an hour later than most places so offers value for money. The selection of food is fairly basic, but good quality and decent sized portions. A small restaurant and often popular with parties, can seem a bit cramped, but staff friendly. Worth a look.
