The Lamplighter has been a stalwart of the Windermere dining scene for 30 years and in that time has built up a loyal following of both locals and tourists. As popular as ever, it was recently reviewed by Jay Rayner in the Observer. It's owned and run by the Tasker family and in 2011 sons James and Alistair took over at the helm. James trained and worked at some of London's top venues including Claridge's, the Dorchester and the Savoy and a recent refurbishment programme has seen the addition of a super art-deco lounge bar and sun terrace. Alistair heads up the kitchen team and his menus are British with a modern twist. Specialities include various choice cuts of Lakeland beef and their famous Fleetwood fish & chips and Lancashire beef suet pudding. They also do a legendary Sunday lunch which is carved at the table in the traditional manner. There’s a great choice of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails too with the recent addition of a Prestige wine list that features a selection of marquee Bordeaux reds. If you are planning an overnight stay in Windermere, there are 11 recently refurbished rooms which feature filter coffee machines, flat screen televisions and private en-suite bathrooms.
