My wife and I have been here for Sunday lunch on a few occasions. I must say the food is excellent and I have never been left wanting. There is ample (if not too much) veg and the puddings are to die for. Excellent does not do it justice.

Dreadful food - full stop!
My wife and I went for a meal there this evening. Priced at £24 per head, it was not cheap, so we were expecting good quality ingredients. How wrong we were.
We ordered the pate to start - bland, dry and frankly inedible - we both left ours plates almost full. At this point we were wondering what we had let ourselves in for.
The soup arrived - minestrone. Insipid and tasteless - the chef had definitely not tasted it either as it had not been seasoned at all. At this point we were talking about walking out... but felt it may be saved by the main. The soups remained hardly touched. Inedible again.
The mains arrived - my wife had ordered chicken with leek slices, and I had ordered the lamb. The chicken arrived without a leek in sight and the lamb was grilled to within an inch of its life (apparently their customers like it like this - but we weren't asked how we would like it). Simply dreadful. Some of the vegetables were overcooked and others were undercooked - not good for potatoes.
We are not used to being served rubbish food at £24 per head so we left.
We complained to the owner who apologised at first, but then said it was our taste that was at fault. We suggested he taste the food himself before he commented further. We left without paying (even though I offered).
One thing I can say is the staff were very attentive and courteous. It is just a shame, for them, that the food was so poor.
Never recommend this place to anyone - or do so at your peril.
Good Luck.

My family and friends visit the Larkins every year for our Christmas do because you have a room to yourselves. We have a great time, we take our own booze in cooler boxes, and play daft games and sing to make the night go with a bang. Its good for any age range, and the food is just like Mums and cooked to perfection. The deserts are all hand made and are exquisite. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Have been a few times....each time its been ok at best.
you get alot of food for a modest price...but there is always something lacking.
Its probably the best restaurant in St Helens from what i have seen...but then again thats not hard!
