Our party arrived and we were greeted by the manager (i think) who was very charming and witty which we appreciated because she seemed under pressure from an overbearing owner (at least we hope it was otherwise she should have shown him the door). Despite this she took it in her stride. Waited 20 minutes for a drink, they were busy but I could have made them for us and the bar staff in half the time. The food was good / ok not the best, we've been before and the quality was better, maybe just an "off night" from the chef. Overall 8/5 the service from the lovely waitress compensated for mediocre food, a rude obnoxious owner / customer and what would otherwise have been a non-starter. Our experience: the food in Beggars Bush (across the road) is far superior and the cocktails made in half the time. I'd give it another go.

TERRIBLE! The venue has changed and not for the better, trying oh so hard to look laid back however embarrassingly gets its so wrong by its pretentious were to cool for school attitude. was chucked a lunch menu and it was 5pm on a Sunday afternoon, when asked if that was all was on the menu was told yes by the damn right snotty waitress, I then asked for a large beer and was given a bottle of ALDI beer (cost £3.50in lead station for one in ALDI you get 6 for that) decided on what was described as a sirloin steak sandwich for £6.70 without fries, then looked across the room at two female companions who were delighted with their Sunday Lunch which did look nice tbf. When my partner enquired about why did we not get informed, she said that she was sorry but they had already made the "steak sandwich" which then arrived looking as pitiful as smart piece bacon rasher on two cardboard style dry bread. Anyway dreadful service dreadful place - ripped seating - was good in the 90s well past its sell by - Its over! awful experience ... DONT GO......

very good food and reasonable prices
we have been several times and always enjoyed it.

Had an excellent meal at the lead station Friday 19th April. It was nice to have a choice of fish from the specials board, the scallop and chorizo starter was well worth the money. Very busy but the food came out quick. Overall a very enjoyable evening.

We've been three times this year and the service and food has been very good. The last time however (Fri 22 Feb) the service was slow and the food had been sat under a grill for some time before we received it, causing my gravy on bangers and mash to turn to a jam like consistancy. My girlfriends salmon had been burnt and dried by the grill. I think and hope this was a one off bad chef night as we will definitely return again in the future

My friends and I went on Friday the 15/02. We had a wonderful meal, wonderful wine and guess what...... the service was wonderful! Top marks all round.

Have, or rather had, been going to the Lead Station for many years. The menu was never fancy but that wasn't the point - it did simple food well, and consistently so. With so may overrated eateries in Manchester it was one place you could always rely on.
Its now changed hands and I'm afraid the food has gone downhill. The menu hasn't changed much (although there were no specials which used to feature) but the old favourites and new additions are on a theme - they don't taste of a single thing. The atmosphere is still O.K. although it seemed quieter than in days gone by. Coincidence? Not if he food is anything to go by. A great shame.
Lead Station
This old time classic has changed ownership. Trying so hard it is almost embarrassing. A try hard front of house, new menu and slight revamp, its is tedious. Staff look confused and don't go if you are in a rush or hungry

Visited the lead station on sun 06/05/07 & had a wonderful meal & a lovely time.. we have been a few times now & would just like to praise the wonderful floor staff, from our friendly greeting,(the Scottish manager who always seems to be on duty)but, still manages to make each guest feel equally as important as the next, to the waiting on staff who seem to buzz & work better the busier the place becomes.. Would highly recommend the lead station to anyone who likes eating out. Keep doing what you?e doing & don? lose your friendly staff.
