Ma Egerton’s Stage Door, right by Lime Street station, is one of Liverpool’s most historic pubs and dates back to 1846. It’s named after its longest-serving landlady, Mary Egerton, who ran the pub from the 1930s and was also a registered theatrical agent, entertaining the likes of Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy and Harry Houdini., many of whom you can see on their Hollywood Wall of Fame. And today it’s still a popular haunt for performers at the Empire and other nearby theatres. Food is served here right through day from noon to 11pm (10pm Sundays) and you can eat in the bar or the lounge area as you please. The pub is famous for its traditional scouse but there’s also a range of pizzas to choose from as well as soups, salads, cheeseboards and sharing platters. Ma Egerton’s has a quiz night every Monday, hosted by Shameless actress Tina Malone, as well as regular live music events. It can also bee booked for private parties and events.
